Calendar Connections ~ Thanksgiving

My wonderful friend Shannon is still working with me to create the Calendar Connections cards. She is a fellow inner city missionary with me and also a homeschooler {and former school teacher}.

We chose the obvious theme of Thanksgiving for November ~ but filled with Biblical history and interesting facts that your children {or you} may not know!  I sure learned a lot!

Thanksgiving Calendar Connections

The facts are written at a 3-6th grade level but you will be able to water them down for younger kids. It’s a great way to involve your entire family in exploring a particular theme.

The cards fit my particular pocket chart calendar {which is currently IN STOCK at Oriental Trading}, item # IN-62/2017…

but you could use a poster foam board and velcro to easily create your own set up. You could also use a standard pocket chart. They seem like they would fit in this calendar on Amazon but I am not certain.

I am now creating smaller sets to go along with the small pocket charts found recently in the Target $1 section. Here is what they look like…

Calendar Connections Small Thanksgiving

Be sure to visit this post for a tutorial of how to sew your $1 pocket chart into a calendar!

I printed my numbers on cardstock and laminated them before cutting them apart.

You can download these for FREE here!

You can use most of our Calendar Connections cards for any month! We are slowly building up what we hope will be a wide variety of themes to choose from!

Putting the foam pumpkins in the slot…IMG_5832

We got out our weight matching activity for the first time.  It is too advanced for Ladybug but we had fun practicing vocabulary with them.  She also really loved stacking them…

She chose this puzzle a lot, she’s very into singing her ABCs…IMG_5798

She loves the ABC magnetsIMG_5800

We had a pumpkin week and since my girl is obsessed with coloring, I set up a coloring station for her.  I just printed 2-3 of each page, and punched a hole in the corner and hung them on some hooks I had so she could see her choices.  I got the coloring sheets from my Pumpkin Preschool Pack, Confessions of a Homeschooler, and

She loved this and colored many of them!!!IMG_5789

We practiced the ABC song slowly while she added a pom pom on the cookie sheet for each letter we sang.  She loved this!  This printable is in my pumpkin pack.IMG_5795

She’s very into tracing these days…IMG_5836

Life SchoolWe had a blast on a recent field trip to Hawk Mountain, where we learned all about raptors.  After the program we went on a really cool hike and Ladybug wasn’t very impressed.  She was a pistol most of the time, but still oh so cute.  She did enjoy wandering on her own, but when it came time to ride on Daddy’s  back in the Ergo, she screamed.  So, he carried her and she was happy.

Hiking, Birds and Tears!

This past week our family went on a homeschool group field trip which involved learning all about raptors, such as this little beauty…IMG_5871

Ladybug was NOT impressed and gave us trouble the entire hour long presentation.  Then when it was time to go hiking {hopeful bird watching}, this was her reaction…IMG_5894These 2 were in heaven!!!!

We live in the heart of the inner city so getting away like this is such a blessing to all of us.  This place was especially beautiful.  Even though we were hoping to spot a few birds, and did not, we still had a blast!

Ladybug calmed down and enjoyed herself a bit, once she was let loose to roam around.

This man could not climb enough, he was quite the explorer!IMG_6046

We didn’t see any raptors, but we did have a very close encounter with this little guy…IMG_6032

I left the field trip and parted ways with my family to head to The Relevant Conference, which is where I am at right now. I miss them all but am so thankful for the day we got together before leaving, and for the opportunity to be here at the conference.

Thanksgiving Printables & More

I am gathering a wide collection of free printables within certain themes. In order to better organize these online, I have created theme blog posts for the themes I have created many printables for!  Links to these pages in the top navigational bar labeled “Theme Printables” so you can jump to them easily.

In this post, I will direct you to the page where the file is hosted on my website, since they are in various places! I hope this helps you find things within themes! I will try to gather anything I have done, created, or posted about surrounding this theme! Slowly I am adding more blog posts like this to help you find everything for the major themes we have done and will do!

Raising Rock Stars Family Time ~ update!

New Testament Overview…

Sunday night Raising Rock Stars Bible time is still going on, I just haven’t taken time to blog about it since we are using a program and it isn’t mine.  I obviously can’t share all of the lessons with you!  image51

We are still using New Testament Overview by Grapevine Studies and loving it!  We aren’t able to do a lesson each Sunday evening, but mostly we do.  We also continue to  read the Bible daily to the kids each morning and are currently in the New Testament.  Morning Bible/prayer time still looks very similar to that post, just with the addition of 2 1/2 year old Ladybug who causes a raucous now.  Krash is still VERY distractible and is often getting redirected back to obedient behavior.  Daddy does his best to engage the kiddos still and they love that.  PacMan has graduated from the floor to free seating since he now behaves very maturely for the most part.

For Sunday evening time, all 3 kids get out their lap trays {from Michaels} and their notebook {they each have one now for this study}.  I stand at the dry erase board to lead, and now use my iPad with the PDF of the manual loaded into iBooks.

Ladybug gets to work drawing freely and the boys wait for me to lead them through the stick figures. IMG_5071

Krash is now drawing mostly on his own with a bit of Daddy help.  I adore 5 year old drawings!!!IMG_5077

PacMan draws on his own and really comprehends the lessons well.  He did Old Testament Overview with me when he was in 1st grade and really enjoyed it also.IMG_5081

I used to host a linky for this, but I am no longer going to since I don’t post for this feature regularly.  Feel free to leave family Bible time ideas in the comments!
