~Ladybug is currently 33 months old~

Here is her desk set up for letter C. IMG_0093

The items in the pocket chart are all available here on the Animal ABCs webpage {files are released for free when they are posted on the Totally Tots blog for the ABC feature}.  I added caterpillars on her desk.

We also had several caterpillar books off to the side in her pink basket. I also set up a few caterpillar themed trays for her, as well as some non-themed activities.IMG_0095

On her trays:

Here are some book ideas for you…

Charlie the Caterpillar was a BIG hit, we read this too many times to count!IMG_0122

She loved the page that showed the sad caterpillar, on the right, she was showing her to me and telling me all about her sadness…

IMG_0127  IMG_0129

She loved the magnetic pattern blocks and the cookie sheet.IMG_0097

I added in some templates for her to work with too, she liked them a lot!

IMG_0227  IMG_0229

Coloring her caterpillars…    IMG_0120

She spent way less time with her notebook for this unit, which is totally fine!  Mostly she colored this page over and over again, I don’t even remember her tracing shapes or numbers at all!IMG_0407

We took her letters A, B, & C, along with the flashcards and hid them all in the ball pit!  She and Krash had a fun letter hunt together!IMG_0277

IMG_0279

She worked with me to make the letter craft, which is basically an open ended project that you can do whatever you want with!  She chose to paint the letter C red, and then glue down the caterpillars.  She wasn’t interested in cutting at all this week, so I trimmed the caterpillars while she painted. IMG_0196

She glued down the caterpillars the next day with me…IMG_0274

Special Note: Please read my post about Following the Child’s Lead if you have a tot and need info about this.  All tots are different and what Ladybug is doing may not be appropriate for your child, even is s/he is the same age!

We worked on a few parts of the The Very Hungry Caterpillar Printable Pack, which she LOVED!  Here she was matching food in our mini pocket chart.IMG_0185

We read the book, a LOT!  Here she was “reading” it to me before we made a caterpillar craft.IMG_0292

Painting her caterpillar…IMG_0294

We also made another caterpillar craft, here she was admiring them both!IMG_0428

One time we read the book and used our flashcards to match…IMG_0341

She enjoyed this a lot!IMG_0347

We “played” the game together too, but with no rules, just had fun moving the caterpillar around and matching up food!

IMG_0106

Note: we got both games at a consignment sale, CHEAP, they are not fun games when actually following the games, as reviewers on Amazon stated.  I don’t recommend paying full price for them, but they are neat to add in if you find the used!

We are taking our All About Reading Pre Level 1 lessons slowly.  I am not expecting mastery from Ladybug, just using this program as a way to expose her to the Big Five Skills.  She is a bit too young for the program and Krash is a bit too old, so that’s why we are using it together.

This week we did lesson 3, which focused on letter C and also rhyming words. With Ladybug I do tons of modeling, you can see us using the rhyming cards below.  She really enjoyed Ziggy being silly this week as he helped with the rhyming words in the wagon!  Krash really enjoyed this too!IMG_0207

She wanted me to color the C and the cat this week, but she asked to color the bowl of cream…IMG_0411

Learning-Toys_thumb2_thumb_thumb_thuKrash’s theme was Angry Birds and Ladybug participated with him in a lot of his activities!!  They played the game a lot together.IMG_0190

She painted Angry Birds, every single one of them!!IMG_0202

Krash had a notebook filed with his work for the week, she enjoyed looking through it and asking for certain things!IMG_0285

One day she put the Angry Birds on a “bus” matching them all up.  She came to get me and said, “wook they match!”IMG_0370

Our winter sensory bin was still out, as well as a salad bowl filled with jewels.  We played a lot with these.

IMG_0356  IMG_0363

We had fun working on ABAB patterns together.IMG_0364

One afternoon we finally tried out water beads!  I had seen them on other blogs and finally ordered a set from Amazon, since we don’t have a Walmart near us.  The kids were in awe, the entire time.  This is when we first put them in the water…IMG_0438

After about 10-15 minutes they grew to this…IMG_0453

Ladybug REALLY enjoyed this and sat in her highchair exploring for about an hour!IMG_0460

She has also played with them several times since, now that they are their full size {about the size of marbles}.  We will definitely be getting more of these, the kids LOVED them!

IMG_0470 IMG_0474

Working in her Tot Time NotebookIMG_0300

She still loves puzzles too! {Target dollar spot puzzle}IMG_0235

I love this shot of her playing on our iPod, sitting in our bean bag chair.   See more iPad apps we love here, iPad apps part 2 is here!! IMG_0350

Raising Rock Stars Preschool ~ Letter H

~ Krash is currently 4 years old ~

We had a short week due to my grandmother passing away {she suffered long with Alzheimer’s so we actually lost her long ago, I am thankful she is free in heaven with Jesus now!} I traveled to South Dakota for several days with my mom and Ladybug, so needless to say, school {and blogging} was put on the back burner. Here’s what I managed to capture before I left.

Rock starsThis is the main section of our preschool posts-focusing on what we do for our Raising Rock Stars Preschool Curriculum. I am not sharing photos of each part every week, just what I happen to catch! We do the entire unit even if I don’t show it here in the photos!

Our Letter this week was Hh, our verse: Honor your mother and your father. Exodus 20:12

Here’s our board for the week…IMG_7138

This week we used the pointer a lot, and Krash came up daily to point to various things I asked him to find. Here he is using the pointer to read the verse…IMG_7277-2

He did awesome cutting out each of his vocabulary cards… IMG_7182-2

He love the “Shape Parents” craft. He cut out all of the rectangles and I cut the rest. Then I put the glue on the paper and told him which shape to find. IMG_7453

Again, he was super proud of it!IMG_7473 You can find the entire set of printables for the Hh unit here on the RRSP Hh resource page.

in the box{A few things that were in his preschool workboxes for the week}

We read Very Hungry Caterpillar every day this week and enjoyed a few activities {all from my Tot Pack} with the book. I had hoped to do more, but with a spontaneous trip to my grandma’s funeral, I ran out of time. Here’s what we did do…

We used our size caterpillars to talk about how the caterpillar grew as he ate more and more! IMG_7479

We found the colored foods as we read the story one day, this is P helping K…IMG_7489

He also matched up our upper and lowercase letters one day…IMG_7501

He loved our new color puzzles, and completed them all in one day!IMG_7192

He also reminded me that we needed to get going again on our Crafty ABCs, Ii for iguana was next in line! {we do these completely separate from our RRSP stuff, so no-the letter does not match up}IMG_7891

game time

This week I chose Candyland {we happen to own the Dora version because when Pac was young he was obsessed with Dora-which we gladly poke fun with him about now!!!} IMG_7507

Skills we focused on while playing….

  • Color ID
  • 1:1 counting as K moved his Diego by himself for this game {just last week he needed tons of help}
  • Dealing with defeat-especially when you were almost the winner and then drew a candy cane and had to go all the way near the start!
  • Getting along with siblings. Again, the boys played alone by the 3rd day. This week I played on day 1 with K alone-to teach the rules. Day 2 was the 3 of us together and day 3 and 4-boys alone with me supervising. Pac is learning a lot about how to not be so competitive with someone 4 YEARS YOUNGER…a skill I am hoping he grasps sooner than later!

Life School

Krash celebrated his 4th birthday this past weekend {you can see his gifts here}, right after that I had to fly out of town for the funeral so most of his life school occurred with me gone while he stayed with Daddy and Baba {my dad}. I got home yesterday though and busted out the HUGE set of cookie cutters he got for his bday and we played all together for hours! Krash was very into making airplanes, despite my efforts to aim for letters and numbers ;-). We counted his many airplanes, he loved that!IMG_7883

Tot School ~ Butterflies

~Krash is currently 47 months old~

~Ladybug is currently 11.5 months old~

I am posting early this week because we are leaving for a CRUISE this weekend!!! My parents are taking us, AND the boys are staying next door to us in their room {we will have Ladybug alone with us}!!!! This vacation is coming at a perfect time, we are so VERY thankful!!! The Tot School post for next week will go up late, and will show our Tot School at SEA!!!!!

Learning Toys

Krash had fun painting outside this week. It began on paper and ended up on a box…

IMG_4435

IMG_4423 copy

He used our number puzzles to work on 1-10…IMG_4573

Gotta love $1 Target puzzles! After he put it together I asked him to point to different parts, both listed and not listed on the puzzle. I realized by doing this that he did not remember shoulders, elbows and chin! We gotta get to work!IMG_4625 copy 2

We played with our nesting blocks, which will be featured later this month on Totally Tots for my Play with Me post. He loved throwing the bean bag in to different boxes!IMG_4960 copy We continue to do our shape of the day and he still loves this!IMG_4599

Pac Man showed him how to make a tiny diamond with his fingers, I love the intensity as he tries to copy his big brother!

IMG_4604

IMG_4602

K’s star boxes for the week {counting bears with a color die and boxes, stacking cups, lacing beads}. I didn’t get any action shots, but he played with these SO much! I even caught him sorting on his own! He came and got me one day and asked me to help him stack the cups in the correct order, so adorable.IMG_4535

Theme

We enjoyed a week celebrating NEW LIFE by focusing on butterflies! We read loads of great butterfly books…IMG_4531 copy

Krash painted his New Creation Bible verseIMG_4526 copy

He read “How Many Butterflies” {from the Very Hungry Caterpillar Tot Pack}IMG_4561 copy He watched me while I made neat things on the butterfly play doh mat. {this is in the Easter printables}IMG_4576 copy

He cut out his own 2 Corinthians 5:17 mini book! This is a first and he insisted on cutting it all by himself {so different than Pac Man who always begged me to do all of his cutting for him when he was younger}IMG_4610 copy

He was very into the watercolor paints this week, which is totally new for us! For so long he hated them! He asked if he could paint his mini book, and boy did he ever paint it!

IMG_4622 copyIMG_4611 copy

Techy TotWe were given a neat new set of apps to review ~ Tickle Tap Apps, and Krash is really enjoying them. I will have a full review in May along with a giveaway, but here’s a sneak peek at one of his favorites in the set, the counting game.IMG_4550

Tiny Tot SchoolLadybug worked on her very first puzzle this week! She loves exploring the pieces right now, we’ll work on putting them where they go down the road. ;-) IMG_4591 copy 2

IN and OUT is a very big passion of Ladybug’s right now. This past week she learned to put her little friends in her van. She did this over and over again and was very intense about it as you can see.

IMG_4898 copyIMG_4910 copy

She explored our nesting blocks for the first time. She loved that she could put things in and take them out again! Like I said, big passion of hers now.IMG_5056 copy

Life School

We all need a little movie/blankee break, right? IMG_4639 copy

Little bug enjoys a good movie every now and then too…IMG_4650 copy

The HOT weather hit here this past week, breaking 90 one day! Finally time for outside water play, we had two really happy boys! Daddy was spraying them from our 2nd story deck!IMG_4719crop IMG_4737 copycrop IMG_4749 copycrop

Moms Favorite

Last week it was K showing Ladybug how to play his Leapster, this week it was P showing Krash how to play his Didj. If only it were always like this…{I can dream right?}

The Very Hungry Caterpillar ~ Tot Pack

My pain is your gain!!!! That’s my new motto during these last painful weeks of my pregnancy! I was laughing with my husband last night about it, thinking you all must think I have no life away from the computer–and in part, it’s true!!! I sit in front of this computer for hours a day, because the chair and my bed are the 2 most comfortable places for me to be. While I sit, I create. It takes my mind off of the pain and allows me to be productive. You have about 6 more weeks of this coming from me, and then I hope to take a LARGE computer break and enjoy my 3 children!!!!

Here’s my latest creation, which is for YOU, as Krash is not ready for this yet (he’s 34 mos right now)-I am saving it for when he is a bit older. I LOVE this book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and want to wait to really get into it when he will be more interested. The mini-books, Counting Butterflies…
and ABCs with food…Size sequencing with caterpillars…and butterflies…A fold-out with shapes… A pocket with color matching (an image, a color and color word). Use all 3 or just the ones you want your tot to work on at the time. For most tots the color word will be too much, but I added it in for those of you with older tots or preschoolers using these. **these are a bit tight fitting all into the pocket when printed on cardstock, you may want to trim the squares a bit smaller if you plan to store them all together.

Another ABC set, featuring colored letters this time and caterpillars on the upper case and butterflies on the lower case. Again, I left mine in strips to start with, I will cut them apart after he masters matching the strips. Here is the link to the webpage where you can find all of the PDFs to download. I also added a section including some neat things I found for tots on the web. Don’t forget to dig out your stuffed caterpillars, butterflies, and play food items as you dive into this book with your tot! I hope you enjoy it and be sure to let me know if you write a post about using any of the items, so I can link you to the webpage for others to see!
