Something Special ~ Baby Food Jar Pumpkins Craft

Baby Food Jar Pumpkins

Again,  I browsed around online for pumpkin craft inspiration and came across this post from Stacie. We didn’t have small bottles but we did have baby food jars, so I modified the craft a bit! Here’s our baby food jar pumpkins!

Pumpkin Craft (5 of 5)

It was a very simple craft to make, with little mess for momma to deal with.

~ First, have your kids rip up orange construction paper, crumple it up and stuff into the jars.  This is a great fine motor activity for little ones!

Ladybug was EXTREMELY into the stuffing part!  She loved this!  It kept her busy the entire time while I did the other things with the boys!Pumpkin Craft (4 of 5)

I was engaged with the kids for the rest of the steps, so no photos, but here’s what we did…

~cut jack-o-lantern faces out of black construction paper

~use a green Sharpie to color the jar lids

~twist a green pipe cleaner into a stem {Pac did his own, I did K and L’s}

~use a hot glue gun for it all!

They are now adorable little keepsakes and will certainly be brought out as decorations for years to come!

Something Special ~ Fall Baking

something specialFall Baking Pumpkin Cheesecake Squares

Anyone who knows me in real life will be absolutely shocked by this post.  I have stuck to my goal of cooking with my children for 3 weeks in a row!!!  It is my goal to bake/cook WITH them involved, every Thursday.

I began 3 weeks ago when we all made our favorite blueberry muffins together.  This was something we had all made before so it was pretty easy.  The hardest part was involving and managing all 3 of them ;-).

The following week I completely forgot to plan something and while at Whole Foods I glanced over and saw this…  IMG_9749Yup, you guessed it!  We made pumpkin pie!  I have NEVER made a pie-not even one this simple.  But we did it , it was easy, and it was YUMMY!!!

I was MUCH more brave this past week and chose a for-real recipe that I had never tried before.  I found it online while searching for fall crafts and thought we could handle it!  I was right! We made Pumpkin Cheesecake Squares with a few modifications.  Here’s our ingredients…

IMG_0442We switched out 3/4 cup of sugar for 1/4 cup of sugar and 1/2 tsp of Stevia.  We also used 100% Whole Wheat flour.  We replaced “pumpkin spice” with Allspice-which I think is basically the same thing.  The littles loved banging on the cookies to crush them…

Pac was still a bit sick so he didn’t help much, but Krash helped me flatten the crust and mix!

They came out beautifully and looked exactly as they did in the picture on the recipe-a miracle for me!  Pac Man doesn’t really like them-too pumpkin spicy for him.  Krash likes them and Ladybug LOVES them!  I am not a big pumpkin fan-but I AM a cheesecake fan so I love them!

I am really glad I am stepping a bit out of my cooking comfort zone, it is nice.  I pray I will stick with this-I actually don’t think the children will let me stop.

Something Special ~ Pumpkin Songs

something special Pumpkin Songs

For our weekly music time, we sing many of the same songs each week {which you can find here}, and I am also adding in some special seasonal songs. This week I chose a few PUMPKIN SONGS from my former Kindergarten teaching days. I decided to make new printables for us and for you this time!  I printed our songs 1 per page this time {trimming a bit after printing} and then mounted them to colored cardstock before laminating.

Pumpkin Songs

After we had our group time, I put the songs into a small basket with some little foam pumpkins {we got ours from Jo-Ann Fabrics}, and some books about pumpkins and Halloween from a Christian perspective .We have been using our basket each day to review our songs and read our pumpkin books too.

We own many of these and enjoy the others from the library!

Something Special ~ Marble Painted Pumpkin Craft

something special Marble Paint Pumpkin Craft

This week I get full credit for my pumpkin craft idea!  I am sure someone else has done exactly this, but I didn’t use the internet to search, I used my creative {ahem} brain.

I made a simple pumpkin printable {which you can download here} and printed them on white cardstock.  I saved some perfect cardboard box tops and we marble-painted pumpkins!  When I told the boys how we were going to paint, they were both overjoyed!IMG_0017

Look at K’s face as he was beginning his “painting game” as he called it!IMG_0010

We used a paint tray {ours are from Oriental Trading but I have seen them at Michaels and AC Moore} and plastic spoons to help keep my hands clean {I did the transferring for them}IMG_0040

I put a small tape roll to hold the paper in place, the boys loved how the box top looked when we took the first one off!IMG_0051

Each child made 1 large pumpkin and then 4 smaller ones {I had decorating ideas in mind ahead of time!}.IMG_0044

Ladybug made one too, except I really had to help her so no action shots of her!  She kept trying to grab the marble!!!  She giggled and giggled though-loving the process!IMG_0075-2

After they dried, I laminated them all, and then used them as fall decorations!  I made a leaf chain for our living room mirror, and hung the big ones in different places.  One in a window and the other two in our schoolroom!  The kids LOVE seeing their art up as decorations!

Fall Leaves Songs

For our weekly music time, we will be doing many of the same songs each week {which you can find here}, and I am also planning to add in some special seasonal songs. This week I chose a few FALL LEAVES SONGS from my former Kindergarten teaching days. I decided to make new printables for us and for you this time! I also included laminated leaves to use while singing {the leaves are on the last page of the PDF download for the songs}.

I printed our songs 2 per page and then mounted them to fall colored cardstock before laminating.

They all loved it! It was hard to take pictures, but I did get a few of them blowing their leaves at the end of one of the songs!

After we had our group time, I put the songs into a small basket with the leaves, some foam letters to spell L-E-A-V-E-S {I got the mini letter puzzles recently from Walmart for $1}, and some books about fall leaves.
