et Word Family Printables

I have not created all of the sets I plan to create, but have several done and am working quickly on them!  Since I am using one set per week with Ladybug, I have to work fast! I plan to release freebies from each unit on my blog and share some ideas for using the printables. I have already released free _at Q-Tip Painting, _at Word Puzzles, _et Play Dough Mats and _et Funny Font Word Hunt. Sometimes you may also find entire sets free within blog posts or in our newsletters or blog emails!  Full sets will also be listed in my Teacher’s Notebook Shop for $1.25 each and when I am all done I will bundle the entire set at a discounted price!

How we are Using These…

We are using these alongside of our You Can Read Sight Words unit {we finished unit 9 alongside of this unit} We basically just added this in to our other Kindergarten curriculum.

Here’s a peek at what we used this week. These photos also show the order we used the printables, she helped me choose what to do each day. All of the printables are in a binder so she can easily flip through and choose.

Recently she made a set of Perler Bead letters, so I got out the letters we would need for these words and we used the poster as a guide to introduce the new words and make them with the letters she made!  She loved this!

Beginning Sounds ~ look at the picture and figure out the missing beginning sound and write it in!

Word Building ~ I cut these out for her and spread them out on the table.  She then builds all of her words and tapes them on colored paper!

Matching ~ draw a line to match the word to the correct picture.

I hang her work up by her desk each week, here’s an end of the week photo {some of her work is done in sheet protectors with dry erase and therefore doesn’t get hung}

et Word Family Printable ~ Funny Font Word Hunt

et word family printable funny font word hunt

We continue to enjoy our word family work here in our homeschool Kindergarten and have a new _et word family printable for you!  It’s one of Ladybug’s favorite activities, the Funny Font Word Hunt!

et word family funny fonts

This printable is a simple and fun activity to help children see print in many different forms.  As we all know, our world is filled with various fonts and learning that letters are the same no matter what font they are in is important for young kids!  This activity helps them learn this in a fun and simple way.

We use dot paint mostly for this activity, but she also likes to use colored stickers. Don’t have either?  Just use crayons or markers to circle the words in the correct color.

YCR et Word Family -3364

Ladybug also likes for us to take turns sometimes.  We will start at the top left and I will do a word, then she will do a word.  It makes for fun discussion, often about the fonts and letters.  She really gets into this one!

et Word Family Play Dough Mats

et Word Family Play Dough Mats

We continue to work on word families here in our homeschool Kindergarten and have a new _et word family printable for you!  Play Dough Mats! There is no picture of the word on the mat on purpose, to encourage the child to actually read each word and not rely on the picture.

Slide8 Slide9

We used our Play Doh for these, but we often use our homemade play dough recipe to make our own!  I definitely prefer making my own! I need to get busy and make some soon!

YCR et Word Family -3419

Forming letters and words with play dough is great for fine motor muscles in little hands.  It is also great for slowing a child down to focus on the formation of each letter and the order of letters in a word.  She really enjoyed making all of her words, then transferring them into a row like this.  The blue mat you see is our MessMatz, we love it!  We got ours on Zulily, they show up sometimes there!

_at Word Family Printable Puzzles

_at Word Family Printable Puzzles

We continue to work on word families here in our homeschool Kindergarten and have another _at family printable for you!  Word Puzzles!

at Word Family Puzzles

I used to print these {the same ones are included in You Can Read Sight Words} on cardstock and laminate them, but then my daughter began liking to tape them together.  So, I now print them on regular paper and cut them apart before giving them to her all mixed up.  She sorts them all out herself using the shapes and background images to help her put the words together.

YCR at Word Family -2644

She loves to color, so she asked to color the pictures after she got them all together.  Since I suspected she might want to color them, we carefully flipped the completed puzzle over and taped it on the back so she could color on the front.

AT Word Family Q-Tip Painting

Rhyming Words Q-tip Painting Printable ~ cat, hat, rat, bat

We are working on word families here in our homeschool Kindergarten and will be sharing lots of fun word family printables with you! An entire new You Can Read Word Families set is in development, more details coming very soon!

We started with the _at word family and are focusing on basic CVC words {consonant-vowel-consonant}. Each new set will only focus on 4 words from each word family.

Since we love Q-Tip Painting printables around here, I made a set for our _at words to work on the _at rhyming words.

Ladybug still struggles with her pencil grip.  We use the pom pom pencil grip correction method when she is writing, and these Q-Tips give extra help for her small hand muscles.  I even cut the Q-Tips in half to force her to use her fine motor muscles.

YCR at Word Family -2901

She loved these printables and enjoyed painting the pictures with the Q-tips also.
