Black History ~ Calendar Connections

Black History Calendar Connections Printables

We have another new set of Calendar Connections cards! My wonderful friend Shannon took a break but she is back with a new set and plans for more in the near futurehas been hard at work behind the scenes! She writes the Calendar Connections cards for us, I design and host them.

We chose Black History for our next theme! Black History Month was a requested theme by many last year and Shannon has worked hard on this set. This new set tells a bit about the history of Black History Month, and features 27 different African-Americans who have contributed to our country in great ways. This set is featured for February, so you will notice there are only 29 cards, instead of the normal 31.

Black History Calendar Connections

The facts are written at a 3-6th grade level but you will be able to water them down for younger kids. It’s a great way to involve your entire family in exploring a particular theme.

NOTE: these do NOT print front to back, only the premium design does. These are the original cards, which we still offer for free. You can see an example of the bundled set here!

The cards fit my particular pocket chart calendar. I put the image cards in the pockets backwards and flip each day We either keep the information cards in a folder or behind the image card and pull it out on the correct day to read it. Calendar

You could use a poster foam board and velcro to easily create your own set up. You could also use a standard pocket chart.

I am now creating smaller sets to go along with the small pocket charts found in the Target $1 section. Be sure to visit this post for a tutorial of how to sew your $1 pocket chart into a calendar!

There is also a sheet included to be used in a Calendar Notebook if you are using those too!

I printed my numbers on cardstock and laminated them before cutting them apart.

You can download these for FREE here!

You can use most of our Calendar Connections cards for any month! We now have 15 sets to choose from, and we will still be adding more too!

Love Activities for Kids {1 Corinthians 13}

Love Activities for Kids Based on 1 Corinthians 13

Years ago, Laura from 10 Million Miles wrote a series on LOVE over at Totally Tots and I developed some printables to extend her ideas.  You can read the ideas she shared to go along with these printables here on her blog. This series was all centered around love activities for kids based on 1 Corinthians 13.  Laura shares some simple and beautiful ways to teach these verses to younger kids.

The first year we used these printables, we made a wall and added a new heart everyday, you can see it in this post! The following year I was inspired by another blogger and created a bouquet out of our printable hearts! Hers are much more beautiful than mine.  Why I used black instead of green I don’t know, but I am too lazy to change them now! Here’s our bouquet, which we have used for years!

Love Activities Based on 1 Corithians 13

Each day one of the kids chooses a heart flower from a bag and we read about that phrase/word.  Then it is added to the bouquet.

I adapted these ideas for PacMan when he was 7.  I created a notebook with versesIMG_1419 copy to copy which allowed him to earn money to show love to someone else.  You can read all about what we did here!

I updated the printables and in the download link {scroll down} you will find all of these printables as well.  I had a great time digging out his old notebook to take some pictures for you.  He could work on as many or as few as he desired each day, usually he did 1 per day.  The verse was chosen by him each day and copied directly out of his Bible  He worked on this when he was about the same age as Krash, look how little he looks in the photo!

At first he had a hard time copying, so I shared another post how I was helping him with Bible verse copying.

We have used these printables year after year, and even had a family bible night based on them!  Here’s an old Tot School post showing them in action also.

It has been a few years since we used Tot School Printables when Ladybug was around 2 years old. It was such a fun time, one of my favorite programs.  Tot School Printables Tot School Printables isn’t just a printable program, it encourages you to dive into a particular theme with each unit, and develop vocabulary along the way.  Exposing basic early learning skills happens all while you are just having fun!

If you have a tot around the age of 2 or 3, and are looking for some direction, this might be for you!  My daughter was 23 months old when we began, and she begged for table work.  You can read my post, Following the Lead of the Child, to see how difficult this was for me as an early childhood educator to accept. We had a fabulous time using this program and it really helped me stay on track and have fun activities to expose her to every week!

This is a FREE printable program, you can download the lessons on the Tot School Printables webpages.  Below you can see all of our posts A-Z linked up, and get a feel for how we did things.
