World Geography Country Printables

World Geography Country Printables Free Cards

I wanted a simple world geography homeschool curriculum to use with all three of my kids in Kindergarten, 3rd grade, and 7th grade. I started with purchasing Geography & Cultures while at the Teach Them Diligently Convention last spring. Two really awesome books came with this set {Passport to the World and Children’s Atlas of God’s World}, as well as a lesson guide. Soon after this purchase I bought another world atlas {National Geographic Kids Ultimate Globetrotting World Atlas}, and also dug out my Children Just Like Me book.  We also still use and love our Little Passports resources.

If you know me, you know I had to create some country printables of my own and that’s what I am sharing with you today!  I went through the books, and our Little Passports packets, and made a list of the countries included {49 countries total – which isn’t all, but most}.

Each card includes the name of the country, a place to fill in the capital, and a place to write in the continent.  There’s also a flag to color as well as a graphic of the country in blackline form.

Here’s a peek…

World Geography Flashcards

I started out in alphabetical order but then realized I forgot a few countries in my initial list and it was hard to shift at that point, so you’ll find a few out of order at the end — sorry about that!

I printed one set for each of my kids, on cardstock. I punch a hole in the corner and when they are done we add the card to a metal ring.

We do two countries per week, going over just simple basics as we read the book we are using.  We started with Passport to the World and just completed this book last week! This is what our learning usually looks like during this time.  We all sit together as I read to them.  We also get our big map down and find the country.

They each have 26 countries on their ring now!  We use these to review easily also!

My Simple Geography Goals

  • Find the country on a large map
  • Identify the capital city
  • Identify the continent the country is on
  • Color the flag
  • Discuss facts presented in the book we are using currently

The first book we used, Passport to the World is an alphabetical book with a language of the country as the focus {also being the alphabetical part}.  My kids were thoroughly confused when The United States of America showed up for letter C.  Took a lot of explaining that this was for the Cherokee language ~ that’s what the C was for!  They are used to it now, but at first it was confusing! Below you can see a few other photos from our time with this book.

Seriously it is such a simple way to do world geography all together.  I hope to get even more in depth with some of the other books as we move forward this year and probably next year too with a similar plan.

You can easily use these country printables with any book or geography program, just choose the countries you want to use.  I may even add more so if there’s a country you’d like to suggest I add, please leave a comment.  no promises, but I’d love to get a list together of countries to add.

These are the books we have in our collection so far to use together as we learn.

Here’s a peek at what we used during this unit. These photos also show the order we used the printables, she helped me choose what to do each day. All of the printables are in a binder so she can easily flip through and choose.

We enjoy using our Perler Bead letters to make the words.

Rainbow Q-Tip Painting Printables

Rainbow Q-Tip painting

I love rainbows and I love Q-Tip painting, so of course we needed a new rainbow q-tip painting printable set!  This set has a variety of fun rainbow printables to help focus on color words, beginning sounds of color words, and ROYGBIV! I also offered a version that says “purple” in case you don’t use the indigo-violet version with your kids.

There are a few pages with full rainbows…Rainbow Printables

You’ll also find a full page for each color word, showing only that color in the rainbow… Color Words Q-Tip Painting

Finally, there’s a half sheet for each color featuring the beginning sound and a place to trace the color word… Rainbow Color Printables

We use water colors mostly, but sometimes use Tempera paint too.

WHY use Q-Tip Painting Printables?

The big answer is fine motor skills! You’ll notice how we focus on not only the tiny dots, but also using small items in painting or adding to the dots. All of this works on hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills

The letter identification is a secondary bonus!

See ideas for using these here!

IG Word Family Mini Book

Word family work is a daily activity here in our homeschool Kindergarten and we have a new _ig word family printable for you!

ig word family mini book free printable

This mini book is a simple activity to reinforce the words being learned. To prepare I cut the pages of the book out and stapled them together.  I cut around the outside edges of the pictures, but let her cut the pictures out by herself.

ig word family mini book ig word family mini book

She LOVES to color, so everything gets colored around here.  Totally opposite from my boys!

YCR ig Word Family -3640

She also likes to cut!

YCR ig Word Family -3646

She really enjoys using tape, so we use it instead of glue sometimes.

YCR ig Word Family -3653

Once all of the pictures are cut out, she reads the word on each page and finds the correct picture and tapes it on!

February Calendar Cards

I am a day late, but there’s a good reason.  I wasn’t planning on using any special cards in our calendar this month.  Last month we used our Baby Animal Calendar Cards and my daughter loved them.  When she walked in the schoolroom today and saw my boring numbers she was highly disappointed and asked me where the fun cards were. She told me she wanted some animals with hearts for Valentine’s Day. Thankfully I had some clipart I used for the Valentine’s Day Q-tip Printables that I knew would work and I whipped some new cards up for her!

In case you want to use them I thought I would share, even if it is already February 1.
