Counting is for the Birds Kindergarten Literature Unit Printables

Our next Kindergarten Literature Unit Study Printable Pack is ready, Counting is for the Birds by Frank Mazzola Jr.!  We are technically closer to 1st grade now so I adapted this set to her needs.  It would be a better pack for later in the Kindergarten year for most children.

Counting is for the Birds is a favorite book of Ladybug’s, featuring another of her favorites ~ BIRDS!  It features many of her very favorite birds, lots that we find on our own feeders! You can get the book here!

In this printable unit you will find a sample lesson plan.  I provide a lesson plan idea, but even I probably won’t follow this, it is just an idea.  Make this work for you and your child!

The character connection is focused on identifying times to be quiet and times to be louder, since bird watching is a quiet activity.

Here’s a peek at the work she did at home.

She barely colored the coloring page this week, thus no action shot.  My coloring loving girl just wasn’t feeling it.

Cut and Glue the Verse ~ this is a great word work activity for her, identifying individual words and sounds she knows as well as the Bible verse as a whole. She uses the printable that has the light gray matching words on it. I didn’t get an action shot of this one!

World Geography ~ North America Printables

Free North America Printables

In continuation of our world geography studies this year, we have a new set of printables for you that go along with the next book we are using!  We finished up the book Passport to the World and are now using Children’s Atlas of Gods World.  Since our country cards were such a great tool for my kids, I knew I needed something for them to work on as we learned.

This new book is divided by continents so I made a notebooking page for each continent and then the countries featured in the book. I added a flag, a map, and some basic facts about each country we read about.

Childrens-Atlas-of-Gods-World1

Today I am sharing our North America printables with you!  You’ll find a notebooking page for North America, U.S.A., Mexico, and Canada. I also included an answer guide at the end of the PDF file. These printables are specific to this book so I would definitely recommend using these alongside of the book. If you looking for a more generic North America printable set, try these North America printables from Homeschool Creations!

Here’s a few action shots, showing my kids working with me. Right now we are working on one page for a week, studying a country or continent 2 days per week  We do this all together at the dining room table.  My kids are Kindergarten, 3rd and 7th grades. They each have their own worksheet and follow along with me as I write notes on the dry erase board.

Geography -4291

Below you can see the book we are using in the bottom left corner and the Children Just Like Me book that we pulled in to study the Inuit people on the day we did Canada. We are directly using Children Just Like Me a lot wit this study as we come to a country that has a child featured in this book. This was shared on Instagram here!

Geography -4753

Ladybug mostly draws for her empty boxes, so I try to give her an example.  Sometimes she wants to copy words too.  The boys both copy the words or write their own.

Geography -4457

My Simple Geography Goals

  • Find the country on a large map
  • Identify the capital city
  • Identify the continent the country is on
  • Color the flag
  • Discuss facts presented in the book we are using currently

Be sure to grab our country cards and see what we did using the book Passport to the World as our focus.

We are loving our Kindergarten Literature Units,  and recently completed Mr. Cookie Baker!

Mr. Cookie Baker Kindergarten Literature Unit in Action

We spread this unit out over two weeks, doing just a little each day.

Day One

On the first day we read the book together, and worked on our cookie graph together.

Mr Cookie Baker -5747

She also completed the C is for Cookie activity, but I didn’t get a photo!

Day Two

She loves working with money, so the coin matching and counting activity was a big hit.  We played “store” and bought and sold the cookies together, practicing naming the coins and adding them up.

Grand Finale ~ Cookie Baking

Of course we had to back cookies!  WE even used the recipe in the back of the book, which she LOVED!  My oldest son is our baker, so he led the entire process, which took a couple of days!

Crawly Creatures Montessori Printables

Montessori Nomenclature Printables 3 Part Cards Bugs and Creatures

I have been meaning to add to our Montessori Printables collection for years and was finally inspired to finish some sets I had begun long ago! I have a few more sets I am working on and hope to continue sharing these as I complete them.

For today, here is our new Crawly Creatures set.  It began as just bugs, but I wanted to include a snail, slug, and worm so I had to change the name!

Montessori 3 Part Cards Bugs Montessori 3 Part Cards Bugs

Unfamiliar with Nomenclature cards, also called 3-Part cards?

Nomenclature cards are a Montessori based idea. The word Nomenclature comes from the Latin “nomenclatura” which means assigning of names to things. Nomenclature cards are also called “3 part cards” for obvious reasons!

Here’s a couple of articles sharing more about the what, why,  and how!

Download your FREE Crawly Creatures Nomenclature Cards here!

The sets available are listed in alphabetical order, look for the words “Crawly Creatures” and click!
