I wrote about my views on using themes with young kids, and there are certainly a LOT of early childhood themes to choose from! When you begin planning, Pinterest and Google can be a bit overwhelming!  I am creating this series to help you with your planning.  I have gathered all FREE theme based printable packs {mainly early childhood focused, tots-1st grade} that I am aware of and sorted them by letter so you can browse through and get ideas all in one place! I did NOT include holiday based packs, simply because there are so many and they are pretty easy to find when holidays roll around.

I have included free printable theme packs from bloggers around the web including; Homeschool Creations, 2 Teaching Mommies, Spell Outloud, 3 Dinosaurs, Confessions of a Homeschooler, Me & Marie Learning, Ooopsey Daisy, All Our Days, Creative Learning Fun, Royal Baloo, 123 Homeschool 4 Me, Lawteedah, Our Little Monkeys, Creative Preschool Resources, Our Country Road, Homeschool Share, Gift of Curiosity, This Reading Mama, and Over the Big Moon. {if any of you ladies notice an error please let me know!}

If the pack was created by another blogger, I listed their {blog name} in the brackets.  If there aren’t any brackets, I made it!

Tot School ~ Letter H

~Ladybug is currently 35.5 months old~

Animal-ABC-Button9222222

Here is her desk set up for letter H…IMG_4624

She always loves the littler animals on her desk each week.IMG_4582

The items in the pocket chart are all available here on the Animal ABCs webpage.  I added hippos on her desk, and her Hide and Seek Hippo book, which she loved! {files are released for free when they are posted on the Totally Tots blog for the ABC feature, letter G is not free yet, but it will be once it is posted on Totally Tots!}.

Here are some Letter H and Hippo ideas for you…

She did very little tracing this week in her dry erase notebook. Totally fine by me, it’s her choice each week.  She did enjoy pulling out her old sheets and wanted to color the dolphin!IMG_4579

She has a big 3” binder under her desk that has all of the old units, so she can look through them and redo any she chooses!

Coloring hippos…IMG_4278

Here she is working on Letter H Dot Fun, we used dot stickers this time!  This set is included in the Animal ABC Bundle, or you can purchase the set as a stand alone set for $1.25 on Teacher’s Notebook.IMG_4283

She worked with me to make the letter craft, which is basically an open ended project that you can do whatever you want with!  Last week she painted the letter H with “snow paint” I lost all of my photos from that day sadly.  This week she glued on her hippos all by herself.  IMG_4334

She is REALLY loving white glue!IMG_4338

We did a few simple hippo crafts from my Hippo Theme Pinterest board. First, a paper bag puppet hippo, she loved this one!IMG_4613

We colored a heart hippo together…IMG_4614

Special Note: Please read my post about Following the Child’s Lead if you have a tot and need info about this.  All tots are different and what Ladybug is doing may not be appropriate for your child, even if s/he is the same age!

We are taking our All About Reading Pre Level 1 lessons slowly.  I am not expecting mastery from Ladybug, just using this program as a way to expose her to the Big Five Skills.

This week we did lesson 8, continuing our work with rhyming words.  No photos of that part this week!  We played a LOT with Ziggy {the puppet}, she was so into the lesson thanks to him!

She loved the letter page this week!  She colored the H brown first {her choice},IMG_4268

then I let her use blue glitter to color the water!IMG_4273

Learning-Toys_thumb2_thumb_thumb_thu[1]

She barely played with the toys on her shelves this week!  Amazing how her interests change from week to week!  Here she is sorting shapes…

Spiky ball transfer…IMG_4515

Theme

We had some Easter activities out, including our Easter {junk} Sensory Bin.  She played in it a LOT!  She loved making an egg sticker collage…IMG_4246

She didn’t play the actual game, but had a great time “playing” her own version of the Easter gameIMG_4251

Matching colored eggsIMG_4254

Her MOST favorite…definitely the Resurrection Eggs!  We spent time as a family on Good Friday evening going through them all and having a little “Jesus Easter Egg Hunt” as the kids call it.  IMG_4588

Moms-Favorite_thumb2_thumbOur sweet kitty, Izabella is still hanging in there.  I wrote more about what’s going on here on my Facebook page.  Ladybug loves this little kitty, and even if she isn’t with us much longer, I will cherish the time with her.  Seeing Ladybug be so gentle with her is heartwarming.  She even covers her with her special blankee.IMG_4424

Tot School Letter Hh

~Ladybug is currently 35.5 months old~

Animal-ABC-Button9222222

We started Letter H this week, but did not come close to getting even half of our activities done, so I will continue with Hippo week until we finish!  This is a good thing because I lost almost all of our hippo photos, including our shaving cream spa and painting!!! Sad smile  When I went to find them, they weren’t there, I must have formatted the card without saving, not sure at ALL how I did that.  I lost many of our other school photos too.

Here is one hippo shot I found, of the hippos swimming in the water beads.IMG_3369

Learning-Toys_thumb2_thumb_thumb_thu[1]

I had lots of toys set up, her favorite was one of the most simple trays I created-a little bucket filled with random dice and an empty container.IMG_3321

She loves this ABC puzzle just as much as Krash did.  She did it several times this week!IMG_3344

We have added MANY new books to our iPad book collection, the new recent FAVORITE is our Little Critter Set.  My kids have always loved Little Critter books and now to have 10 of the books in this set!  I am really getting into the digital books thing, although it has taken me awhile to jump on board.  I love that they can have the book read to them, or I can read it.  IMG_3545

Other recent favorites have been the Miko books from Apps By Auryn.  The kids just love this little mouse!  See more iPad Apps we love here!

Life School

We went camping together on Thurs and Friday nights!  It was chilly but wonderful.  Ladybug LOVED it, she is such an outdoorsy kid.

She loved the unlimited time with her Daddy!

We used unit 14 from You Can Read.  Here’s a glimpse into some of the You Can Read work he did.  He dislikes the making words activity but I know it really helps him so I make him do it!  You can see his words in his Education Cubes up top.  IMG_7541

We are enjoying lots of Christmas themed work around here these days! We all love our Little People Christmas toys, both this train and our Nativity are big favorites.IMG_7518

Krash loves the Play Dough box almost as much as Ladybug does!IMG_7485

Krash is the biggest fan of our Christmas Sensory Bin, here he dumped out the entire box and sorted it all on his own!IMG_7968

I sounded out nativity animals for him and he had to blend my word to find the correct animal. {the printables are from Musings of Me-I got them last year but can’t find them on her blog this year-sorry!}IMG_8016

Playing a math game with PacMan…IMG_7806

IMG_7810

We began reviewing All About Reading Level 1 a few weeks ago, and Krash has completed 10 lessons so far.  You can read more about why we are choosing to review this homeschool reading program here in our “Current Curriculum” post {see FAQ}.

IMG_7520

We are loving it.  But let me explain loving it.  I LOVE teaching reading, and Krash loves learning to read.  But he does not love taking time to sit still and do the lessons.  He does it and he likes it, but he would rather be jumping around.  But since he has the drive to learn to read, he does well.  I hope that makes sense.  I don’t want you to think my wild child eagerly comes over for his reading lesson daily-he doesn’t.

IMG_7524

But, he enjoys most of it once he gets there AND he is learning and growing tremendously.  If you asked K if he loves All About Reading, I am not sure what he would say.  He doesn’t “love” anything to do with school, but he loves learning.  Funny how those totally contradict each other, but it’s just the truth. I am not sure how else to explain him-he is a unique student!

IMG_7664

Daddy really enjoyed coming home one day right in time for his reading lesson, and it was a day that Krash was assigned 2 stories from the book.  Krash likes the book a lot and giggles often!IMG_7766

IMG_7768  IMG_7770

A huge part of AAR is review, so we review our word card stack daily-which sometimes brings on the grumps.  One day I changed things up and we used the iPad to review, using the wonderful app, Montessori Crossword.  As he taps the letters, the app says the correct sound and then he blends it.IMG_7845

Since the idea of the lessons is a bit of a struggle for him, I decided to give him a little reward for completing every 10 lessons-we even added prize smiley faces to the check off sheet so he can visually see how close he is to the prize.  We got to lesson 10 and he was beyond excited!  He chose a Cars 2 car for his prize {we keep a small toy supply to use as prizes for things like this, but haven’t used the basket in a long time}.IMG_7812

Tot School ~ Letter Hh

~Ladybug is currently 24.5 months old~

Tot-School-Printables1121222

Letter: Hh

Object: Hammer

Vocabulary Development Theme: Tools {Handy Manny}

You can find the printables for this unit here on the Tot School Printables webpage.

Why, oh why did it take me so long to buy a cookie sheet for school?  I meant to buy one when Krash was a tot and never remembered.  Finally I remembered while at Target, and it is awesome!  It amazes me how something so simple can engage a child so much!

We used our puff ball magnets {just take a pom pom and hot glue a magnet to it} to work with our printables…IMG_3695

IMG_3713

She even did the lacing card with magnets this week and really enjoyed putting them on the tiny circles.IMG_3716

LOTS of number work was done, like I said-AMAZING how a simple tool can change the entire activity!IMG_3722

IMG_3803

I created a new add-on for Tot School printables…dot paint shape pictures!  She loved this!!!  I am still finding a place to host my add-ons for Tot School printables, for now download the first few here!IMG_3811

We keep our magnets in a baby food jar and this is great work for her to dump, put them back, and screw the lid on and off!IMG_3829

I put velcro strips on the side of a drawer set and put her review flashcards up!  She has played with them a lot since I did this!

IMG_4074  IMG_4076

IMG_4078

IMG_4079

We used our homemade play dough to make letters again, this time we used our wooden letters to stamp into the play dough, and put jewels in the dough.IMG_4319

She finger printed the dough again…IMG_4326

Then she added jewels to the letters…IMG_4333

She colored most of her hammers this week on her own!IMG_4094

She did a lot of dot painting again, this time after she had used the magnets and the cookie sheet.  It was great to use the printables more than once but in different ways!

IMG_4100  IMG_4105

Tracing was a big hit too and she traced on the lines a lot!!!IMG_4110

She really got into the erasing this week too!IMG_4113

Letter Hh printables here!

Fun Books & Toys for this unit here!

totbookheader

We got out our Handy Manny Tot Book and I was shocked with how MUCH Ladybug liked it!!IMG_4086

IMG_3729

Krash saw her working and wanted his own Handy Manny stuff.  I pulled out his Tot Book, which he made when he was about 2 1/2.  He couldn’t believe he didn’t color the entire thing and proceeded to color it all!IMG_4154

Krash used to be a big Handy Manny fan so we have his old toys and Ladybug is now in LOVE!  She really enjoyed watching Handy Manny with his tools sitting beside her!IMG_4160

She loved finding the tools that matched the book she was coloring!IMG_4173

Tot Trays

I finally got my shelves reorganized our shelves to get her started on Tot Trays! I only have room for 2 right now, but we have another trip to Ikea on the agenda so I can add another tall shelf and use the bottom rows for Tot Trays on the 2 units, using the bins for storage at the top.

For those of you wondering what the difference between our Tot Trays and our Learning Toys…the trays are activities I set up with specific thought in mind {think Montessori}.  The learning toys we use are usually spontaneous activities that occurred with other toys we had out and about during the week.

This week I set up Stacking Pegs and we worked together a LOT on the words push and pull.  She also gets very frustrated when she pushes too hard and they fall out, so we worked on dealing with dramatic moments!IMG_3673

IMG_3677

Later in the week she began stacking tall towers on her own!

IMG_4353IMG_4356  IMG_4359

She also worked a lot with Guidecraft’s Fraction Cups.  I started her with just the whole and the halves, modeling them for her while saying the names of the fractions.IMG_4065

Once she mastered the whole and halves, I added in the thirds.  There is one with fourths but she isn’t quite ready for that one yet-the pieces are too similar to the thirds.IMG_4341

Learning-Toys_thumb2_thumb_thumb_thu[2]

She spontaneously sorted the balls from our ball pit, into our colored hats!  Then I heard her counting them!!!!IMG_3664

Ladybug is a master color sorter!!!  She sorted Zoobs while Krash and I were building a car!IMG_3791

Enjoying some toys outside on a warm day, the gears toy always keeps her busy for awhile!IMG_4195

She finished coloring before Krash one day so I gave her the container to put her markers into the small holes. She did this about 5 times!IMG_4175

tub-of-fun_thumb2I set up a tool sensory bin for her, mostly toy tools, with a few of Daddy’s safe tools in it too, she loved it! IMG_3687

IMG_3691

She was very excited to find matching Handy Manny tools and was telling me “two tools”IMG_3693

Life-School_thumb2_thumb_thumb_thumb

We have enjoyed beautiful weather this week and spent lots of time outside.I still try to work with Ladybug as much as I can on her gross motor skills because of her delays.  She climbs a lot outside and often gets nervous but I love watching her try!

IMG_4235  IMG_4264  IMG_4229

One of her favorite gross motor activities is walking up the roller coaster track and “running” down.  I hold her hands lightly and let her muscles climb her up the hill and she works on balance when she runs down.IMG_4278

Moms Favorite

Krash turned 5 this past week and we had his party yesterday.  Ladybug was enthralled with the balloons!!!!
