In the Works ~ Flowers Lapbook

We got back to school today after a few days off, I always love getting back on schedule! We had a great time doing a few of our activities for our flowers lapbook.

First, P worked on Seeds of Faith. He colored the little seed packet and cut each Bible verse in the shape of a seed as we talked about planting God’s word in our hearts. He also read each Bible verse before he dropped it into the seed packet. He also worked on a simple multiplication activity. He is very interested in multiplication for some reason, so I printed this for him to do with me. He really liked it and seemed to grasp the basics of what it was teaching.K found the books all set up on the couch for P and he jumped right in and I caught him reading like this :)For more of our posts about our flowers lapbook, click here. In the Works ~ Flowers Lapbook

We are moving right along with our lapbook all about flowers and are both really enjoying this! Here’s what we did today and yesterday…

Each day we are beginning with book time, so he can browse through the many flower books we have (personally, from friends, and the library). Each day he chooses a book or a part of a book (if it’s a long science type book) for me to read. Yesterday he chose to read about the Cactus and today the Venus Fly Trap! I didn’t have either of those things planned in our lapbook, but we enjoyed reading about them! You can see our book list here.
He reviewed the parts of the flower with the game I made for him
And we learned about adjectives using this activity.
He made this simple mini book to label the flower~stem~leaves~roots.
And today he worked on a grid coloring, although he doesn’t know what it is yet!And he spent some time outside drawing flowers!

In the Works ~ Flowers Lapbook

For Little Laplinks this month, we are doing a lapbook all about flowers and plants! P and I are both VERY excited about this as it was something on our list to study anyway. Now we just get to do it along with a whole group of people online!

We began today and both of us learned a lot! Here’s how we began our study,

  • We made K(now) W(ant to know) L(earned) cards. It is always neat to do this at the beginning of a unit and then again at the end!
  • We looked through and read some of the book, Flowers, Fruits and Seeds (Looking at Plants) which led right into…
  • Doing this activity to thoroughly discuss the parts of the flower and pollination. P did a great job labeling the parts and learning the tricky names.

  • Then we headed outside to dissect our flowers in the backyard, we had a great time finding all of the parts together. We plan to do a more formal dissection and recording later on, today it was just for fun to investigate and reinforce what we learned.

  • After going outside we came in and played this game online.
  • And for review, he will play a game I made for him, which is based on today’s activities. You can download pdf files here. I laminated the labeling mat and labeling cards and put it all in a ziploc bag for him to use often throughout this unit. I also printed and laminated cards from this link, for review (you have to play the game and click on the magnifying glasses for the print option to show up).

I have a LOT more in store for him, It took me hours to print all that we are using for this unit! Coming up… (a few of these things were shared on Little Laplinks already, sorry if I relink it)

And I this is just the beginning, we are loving this study! I will share as we go along! Visit Little Laplinks at Lapbook Lessons for more great ideas!

In the Works ~ Human Body Lapbook

We are almost done with our Human Body lapbook! It is quite the project, and we have learned SO much! I created another printable for the unit, this time to summarize the info we learned in the book, Ouch! I made him a mini book in the shape of a band aid and he really liked it! Here he is working on his book…
You can find a PDF of the band aid book here!

In the Works ~ Rainbow Lapbook

We began our work on the rainbow lapbook today and already we both love it! Here’s how we began…

1st we read the book, Rainbow and You, which was a great way to begin for us! I wanted to start by teaching Roy G Biv, using the printable I created for him. This book did a great job of introducing Roy G Biv and also rainbows in general.

After reading the book, he got to work on his roygbiv mini book, and we also introduced color word spelling using the printable I created from the songs at this site. He really liked learning how to spell color words with these cute songs. Here he is posing with his completed product!
