Fall Theme Kindergarten Fun

Fall Theme Kindergarten Fun

She was immediately drawn to the fall songs, which I had displayed in our mini pocket chart.

Fall Theme -1569

We have enjoyed these leaf songs countless times during the past two weeks, tossing leaves all around!

Fall Theme -1576

The silk leaves were from the dollar store years ago and have been great.  I put some in a glass jar and added a clothespin for some fine motor work.

The bowl of leaf and pumpkin gems {from Target dollar section last year I think} has been sorted numerous times.  We have also made patterns together, and counted our piles many times.  Such natural learning with engaging and simple materials.

Below you can see her sorting.

We got out our Scarecrow printables and enjoyed reading together! Story retelling is a favorite with these printable characters.  We put magnets on the back and use our cookie sheet.

Fall Theme -1593

We also had a notebook full of coloring sheets and printables for her to choose from.  Sadly, I didn’t get any photos of her in action!  Everything in the notebook is pinned on our Fall board!

Playful Learning with Spielgaben ~ September 2014

Playful Learning with Spielgaben is our monthly post sharing Spielgaben in action!  If you missed the introduction to this series, you can see it here and also see links to our past posts.. We were given the Spielgaben set to review and are honored to have them as a blog sponsor.  I will be sharing once a month a detailed post featuring Spielgaben.  You can also see my Learning with Ladybug posts to see what my daughter has done with this learning set!

Playful Learning with Spielgaben September 2014

We have had a pretty normal month of school, after a week long vacation during the first week of September.  We are currently doing about 1-2 Spielgaben lessons per week.

Below you will see I have divided the post into 4 categories ~ Lessons We Enjoyed, Free Play, Mommy Inspired Play, and Nature & Inspiration Guide Play It is a long post, I hope these categories help you find what you are interested in reading.

Lessons We Enjoyed

This month we finished up our work with Set 7 and began our work with Set 8. I took small screen shots of the manual for you so you can see how the lessons are laid out.  They are very easy to follow and help me so much. I keep the user guide on my iPad and we use it for the lessons.  She likes that she can enlarge each step if needed to see exactly how something was built. it’s a nice bonus to a PDF digitally instead of printed!

We worked on Lesson 7-7 Tessellation.

Spielgaben Tessellation

This lesson was difficult for her but she enjoyed it.  The final result was really cool and she liked it!

We also completed Lesson 7-8 Center Pattern Play

Speilgaben 7-8

Similar to tessellation, but with a center shape to build around. Again, this was a challenge but one she enjoyed.

Spielgaben -1073

Spielgaben -1076

Spielgaben -1077

We started our lessons with set 8, beginning with Lesson 8-1, Smiley Sun.

Spielgaben 8-1

After exploring for a bit, we jumped right into the lesson.

Spielgaben -1384

She insisted the sun needed a smiley face wince the lesson was called Smiley Sun.

Free Play

I walked into the schoolroom one day to find that my oldest son had built a Creeper from Minecraft.

Spielgaben -1556

Mommy Inspired Play

This one was a big flop.  I had hoped to inspire her to count apples with me, build more apple trees, and just have some fun.  Not her thing.  At all.  But still, isn’t it cute? {note ~ the letters are not from the Spielgaben set, but from a bead set we have}

Nature & Inspiration Guide Play

I have our Nature Guide on the iPad also, I just set it up for her if she asks.  Here she was building flowers in a flowerpot, which she loved.

Spielgaben -0854

In honor of our Selfish Crocodile theme, we built the crocodile again.  below you can see her enlarging the portion she was working on – a great feature of having the guide on the iPad.

Apple Theme Kindergarten Fun

It has been years since I have had an apple theme with my kids.  It was time for some apple theme Kindergarten fun with my girl. Funny part, she told me she did NOT want an apple theme, but I boycotted her on this one.  In the end she loved it and I am glad I didn’t follow her lead in this case.

Apple Theme Homeschool Kindergarten Fun

I had a blast setting up her apple theme shelves, focusing on anything I found in our stuff to represent apples.

Apple Theme Kindergarten -1297

She still has pencil grip problems so we continue to do fine motor work.  Transferring pom pom apples with clothespins is just a simple way to sneak in some practice. Apple Theme Kindergarten -1300

The bin on the bottom shelf is just to contain all of the fun red and green items we have to work with! Apple Theme Kindergarten -1307

I made some apple trees for her using our Spielgaben set.  Sadly, she was not impressed. Apple Theme Kindergarten -1315

I also got a stack of printables I chose specifically for her from various sources which I will link for you when they are shown below. The links will be under the final photo for each day.

Day One

We explored together with the theme shelf a lot. I use our Scrabble Alphabet Soup tiles to make the word apple. Apple Theme Kindergarten -1328

She loved the apples I made out of wikki stix for her. Apple Theme Kindergarten -1334

She asked me to get out the letter A for Apple from our Letter set, then proceeded to make apple patterns with the pegs, all her idea! Apple Theme Kindergarten -1331

Here’s the apple printables she chose to complete day one.  I did let her choose what she wanted to do. Apple Theme Kindergarten -1345 {apple dot to dot, apple 100 chart, apple coloring}

The pop art apple coloring below was done the night before.  Why?  because She saw me setting up her apple stuff and begged to do it! Apple Theme Kindergarten -1348

Day Two

We began by using our Apple Cube Printable.   Apple Theme -1351

She asked to tape the apple together and sit it upright!

Apple Theme -1359 Apple Theme -1365Apple Theme -1360

We used our Scrabble Alphabet pieces to find the missing letters on the apples.   Apple Theme -1372

This cutting activity was a challenge for her but she loved it when it was finished!

Apple Theme -1367 Apple Theme -1368

Of course, apple smiles for snack {sliced apples, peanut butter, mini marshmallows}!

Apple Theme -1404

Here are the printables she chose on day two {links below photo}… Apple Theme -1396 {apple maze, apple missing letters, apple ABC maze, apple cutting spiral}

Day Three

I picked up a set of apple stickers last year at Target when the dollar spot went on clearance!  She used these to decorate a tree I drew for her!   Apple Theme -1410

We had friends over for our apple taste test!

Here’s the printables she chose on day three, plus the tree she made with stickers {I drew the tree on paper}.

Day Four

Dot painting how many apples.   Apple Theme -1505

Tracing the apple and Letter A.   Apple Theme -1506

We worked together to color  the pages of the Apple mini book, then we laminated them and tied them together to make a nice book!   Apple Theme -1507

My mom is here visiting and led this apple craft for me.  Ladybug got very frustrated with it but she finished three apples!  I love the perseverance and the joy she felt when she had a finished project!
