Kwik Stix Solid Tempera Paint Review and Giveaway

Kwik Stix Solid Tempera Paint

{disclaimer ~ Kwik Stix is a blog sponsor and sent us a pack to review, affiliate links are used in this post}

I thought we had all of the art supplies we wanted to have.  Boy, was I wrong! When Kwik Stix contacted us to become a blog sponsor I didn’t expect to be so impressed with these paint sticks!  Impressed is definitely the word.  The full review is below, but in short – yes, you want these!  They are an awesome addition to your art area!

So, what are Kwik Stix?

Kwik Stix -2190

They are solid tempera paint sticks, in lipstick-like tubes.  They dry in 90 seconds or less – we have confirmed this many times!  My kids are simply amazed by this. They don’t need water, are very low-prep, low-mess, and high-fun!

Kwik Stix -2155

I was concerned that they would run out quickly but I think I was wrong.  I twisted the stick up so you could see how much is in the tube.  I think they will last awhile and be worth the cost!

Kwik Stix -2165

The reason I wasn’t expecting to be impressed…

I thought they would just feel like markers. I couldn’t imagine how they could actually feel and look like paint.  I was wrong! The smooth gliding feel is totally different than markers and they give a vibrant look of paint. I found myself painting with them along with my kids.  For some reason they are very soothing to use, they slide on the paper easily.

In action at our house…

Recently we used our Kwik Stix with our Christmas Ornament printables.

The thick lines on these ornaments made them a great fit for the thicker Kwik Stix. Even my biggest boy couldn’t resist joining us for a relaxing art time!

Final thoughts…

I definitely recommend adding these to your art supply stash.  I wish I had found these earlier, I think they would have been great for Tot School and Preschool.  You can get Kwik Stix here on Amazon!

We have recently fallen in love with a new set of books thanks to Educents. They kindly sent us Life of Fred Beginning Readers Set #1 for this review and these books couldn’t have come at a better time!

My daughter, who is in 1st Grade, began Life of Fred Math this year and recently finished up Apples.  She LOVES { I mean really loves} it.  When I showed her the stack of reading books all about her beloved Fred and Kingie, she squealed with joy!  She immediately asked to read them and could read them independently!

Life of Fred Readers -0537

Here’s a video I made of Ladybug reading a couple of the books aloud.  She was reading each book for the first time, you can hear her natural giggles and see her point out things in the books.  She is thoroughly engaged mostly because she had already developed a love for these characters thanks to her Life of Fred Math.

If you are using Life of Fred math with your young child, I highly recommend looking at these books.  I honestly had no idea how she would react to these but her joy far exceeded any expectations I had!  She honestly just loves them!

Life of Fred Readers -0400

I have even caught my boys picking them up and reading them.  The books, of course, are too easy for my 4th and 8th grader, but that doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy them too!  The Life of Fred Beginning Readers are recommended for ages 4 and up, and I would say a target age range is K-2.  A child who already loves Fred and Kingie will probably love these books the most, because they expand on the stories shared in the math books.

Wait!  Haven’t heard of Friends and Heroes?

Friends and Heroes is an animated children’s adventure based in ancient Egypt, Israel and Rome. The story follows two young friends, Macky and Portia, as they fight for justice against the Roman Empire.  Each episode consists of two Bible Stories in which children can learn about characters from the Old and New Testament.

My kids LOVE these DVDs.  We own the entire series and have watched them several times.  They learn so much history from these, I love it!

Teach Your Child to Read Free Flash Cards and Giveaway!

I am excited to have Janine from True Aim here to share how she teaches her children to read with a Free printable and giveaway!

Teaching your child to read is easier than you think and it can be a lot of fun! With just 10-15 minutes a day, you can help give your preschool or kindergarten aged child a head start, or help them improve their reading skills.

First hundred words free flash cards printable

This post contains affiliate links and a giveaway!

When I decided to start teaching my child to read early (around 3 yrs old), there were so many different programs! It was a little overwhelming. I tried Teach Your Baby to Read, The Reading Remedy, Starfall and many others. They were things I liked about them, and things that I felt were missing. There had to be a better way. After researching, My husband and I came up with our own program. The Blue Manor Phonics Reading Set helps your children learn to read by teaching the sounds of the letters first, and in all caps. This is to prevent children from memorizing the shape of the word and has them focusing on what the letter sound is.

Teach your child to read phonics curriculum

The Phonics Book in Level 1 starts with a few basic sounds and has your children blending the sounds to make words right away! This helps motivate them because it makes it more meaningful to them than just learning a bunch of random sounds. Plus, practicing combining the sounds is the KEY to reading. Here’s a quick video to show you what Level 1 looks like.

After completing Level 1, your child will have learned to read their first 100 words! Then they will be ready to read the early readers perfect for their level. These readers are unique in that they have the pictures featured on the next page so your child practices blending the letter sounds instead of being distracted by the pictures. You can use the curriculum just like it shows in the video; review and learn a few sounds each day for 5-15 minutes or however long your children like. Most of the time we do that because it is just SO easy and then sometimes we use activities to reinforce letter sounds or combinations that they are struggling with. Here are some examples of the activities we like to do.

Learn to Read Activities

1. Letter Sounds Bean Bag Toss

2. Alphabet Cube Puzzle Printables

3. Race to a Letter

4. The Reading Road

Use this FREE printable of the First Hundred Words flash cards that go with the curriculum to play exciting Flash Card Games and make it fun for your child!
