Christmas Gift Ideas for Tots {2012 update}

 Christmas Gift Ideas

I get asked a lot about gift ideas, so I thought it might be helpful to throw a few out there with some of my thoughts on a few of them. We personally own everything I recommend, and I will never recommend something we don’t love! I will also link to any reviews we have done or Play with Me posts where we have featured the item on Totally Tots.

I am also a believer in LESS is MORE, so although I recommend things, please know that I don’t believe things make us happy…they are just a small addition to an already full life in Christ. I don’t in any way believe that Christmas is about stuff. I realize gifts are a natural part {especially from grandparents!}, and I love getting recommendations also, which is why I share with you.

This is my list of ideas for tots, which is actually a wide range, gearing towards ages 1-3. I will link to everything where I find the best online price {most of the time it is Amazon}. Most links are affiliate links, some are not {if I am not affiliated with the particular company}. If you purchase anything through an affiliate link, you give back a percentage to our family…thanks!  Christmas Gift Ideas for Tots

Disclaimer: NONE of the companies who make any of these products gave me anything to be included in this post, this is an honest list of items we love as a family.  I was not paid in any way, nor did the companies represented even have any idea they would be included!  Surprise!  Some of these items were review items at one time, and that is noted with a link above.

Christmas Gifts for Jesus

GiftIdeas..all_thumb2_thumb

As much as it was to share gift ideas for tots, preschoolers, boys, and moms…it is even more fun to share gift ideas for JESUS!  It is HIS birthday after all!  Recently I read a book called, Christmas Is Not Your Birthday, and it was an awesome reminder of several key points.  My husband and I both read it and agreed it was a simple book with many powerful messages that we need to be reminded of year after year.

There are many ways to give gifts to Jesus this year, many families have some wonderful traditions.  In this post I am going to share a few tangible ways you can give to “the least of these” and in turn give to HIM.

35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’

~Matthew 25:35-40

This year I am honored to support The Mercy House, which was founded by Kristen Welch from We Are That Family. image I met Kristen at Relevant and also purchased this awesome t-shirt for myself, and also one as a Christmas gift.  You can buy this shirt here, for yourself or for a gift.  imageDon’t need a shirt?  They have many other products that are hand made by the girls who are living in The Mercy House!  There are so many fabulous products that you can give as gifts while also giving to this amazing ministry!

We have sponsored a child through Compassion for over 10 years and we recently added another little girl as our “child” also!  I am sure many of you have a sponsored child or children also, but did you know that Compassion also has a Gifts of Compassion gift catalog?  You can see it here and see the many giving options.

image

We personally do a majority of our Jesus gift shopping through the World Vision Gift Catalog

imageWe sponsor a child through World Vision also, and always enjoy the impact this catalog has on our family.  It is a yearly tradition for our family now.

This year we gave to the Maximum Impact Fund and chose a few tangible gifts to give along with a card to the recipient telling them all about their gift.  A few we purchased this year: The Hole in Our Gospel, The Little Drummer Boy DVD, a toy race car, and The Story CD.

image

Another awesome ministry we join with is Samaritan’s Purse. You can see the Samaritan’s Purse Gift Catalog here.image

Another wonderful ministry I learned about this year while at Relevant is One Verse. This year you can give someone the gift of translating a Bible verse into another language that needs the Word desperately!image

If you aren’t familiar with this ministry, please watch this amazing video which we were shown at Relevant and I also shared with my boys who were greatly affected by seeing other children watch the story of Jesus for the first time.IMG_7061

I know there are many, MANY more ministries and options for giving to Jesus this Christmas.  These are just a few that we have experience with. Merry CHRISTmas!!!

Little Stuff

  • Made On Hard Lotion ~ we use the hard lotion bars, goat milk soap, and chapstick.  They have awesome gift sets available too!  My son and my husband save their dry skin with these bars! Free shipping on orders over $45!  You can see my recent purchase below!
  • Drink Bands ~ these are made by the same people who make Made On {see above}, she sent me a set with my recent order and we are in love.  Such a simple yet genius concept!  Great gift for grandparents too! They just launched and have free shipping for the holidays!
  • Easy Lunchboxes ~ I LOVE these things.  Ask for 2 sets just to be safe!  We use them in and out of the house.  See my original review here.
  • Life is Art ~ we love our FAITH print {review here}.
  • The Vintage Pearl ~ I still wear my necklace every day and it is my absolute favorite. See my original review here.
  • DaySpring ~ Dayspring was a sponsor at Relevant and had many of their beautiful products there.  We even got to take home a few { I own the 2 totes pictured below as well as other goodies}!  The totes are Buy 1 Get 1 Free!  What a great gift deal! They also have a 30% off coupon active through Nov 28, 2011: SUPER30.

Gadgets

  • Laminator {everyone knows how much I love this, right?} I use these pouches.
  • iPod Dock {we use ours for school, we have this exact one but got ours at Target, it’s a bit pricey (it was a gift) but I bet a less pricey model would be equally as wonderful!}
  • Label Maker {don’t know how I lived so long without one-got ours and get our refills at Costco}
  • Cuisinart Hand Mixer {oh how I LOVE this little gadget}

image116 image113 image114 image115

The BIG Gift {just in case Santa still visits any of you}

  • Kindle ~ I own the model from last year, but if I didn’t have this one, I would certainly be asking for the Kindle Fire-that thing looks AHH-mazing!
  • iPad ~ we got one this past year and LOVE it!!  It really is neat for the whole family! See apps we use for homeschool here!
  • iPod Touch {I own the 32G version 3, I linked to the 8G version 4-which is smaller-I don’t really need the 32G I have, but also is better as the newer version has a camera!}
  • Canon Digital Rebel {I personally own the 40D, but the rebel is the best starter dSLR} I get asked a lot about which model of Rebel is best. Honestly-if this is your first dSLR, the lower priced model is great. If you can afford the higher priced model-go for it. BUT-it is not necessary. That is my personal opinion and I know others may disagree. I say the price difference isn’t worth it unless you have future professional plans-and then you’d more than likely move beyond a Rebel anyway. I don’t own either but have seen both and used older models of both.
    • 50mm lens {if you like the blurred background and the ability to shoot in lower light without a flash, you want this lens!}
    • See all of my photography info here in my Behind the Scenes ~ Photography post
    • A great photography book is: Better Photo Basics, I have a few and this one is my favorite for beginners.
    • A Light Scoop is an inexpensive way to soften fill flash light indoors, I have one and use it in my schoolroom for most of my blog photos that are taken indoors.
  • Jack Lalanne Juicer {we LOVE our juicer and have had this exact model for over 2 years, you can read all of our posts about juicing here}
  • Dyson Vacuum {we own this exact one, the DC25 and we ordered ours from Amazon about a year ago.  We LOVE it and yes it is all that.  I hesitated for years to spend the $$ but I am so glad we saved up and finally got it!}
  • Projector ~ we got this for our schoolroom and watch all of our school PowerPoint shows on it, it also shows our Wii and DVD player.  It is wonderful!

Christmas Gift Ideas for Boys

Gift-Ideas..all_thumb3_thumb

This is a new gift idea category this year, focused on PacMan who is 9.  He has approved everything in this post and helped me come up with the suggestions!  Although Pac is 9, he is a bit of a younger kid at heart…meaning he still enjoys toys geared for younger kids too.  So, keep that in mind with his recommendations.  Some boys his age might be way too cool for some of the things he loves!

I get asked a lot about gift ideas, so I thought it might be helpful to throw a few out there with some mini reviews on each item. We personally own everything I recommend, and I will never recommend something we don’t love!

I am also a believer in LESS is MORE, so although I recommend things, please know that things don’t make us happy…they are just a small addition to an already full life in Christ. I don’t in any way believe that Christmas is about stuff. I realize gifts are a natural part {especially from grandparents!}, and I love getting recommendations also, which is why I share with you! I may add to the list as I think of other ideas, so be sure to check back!

Christmas Gift Ideas for Preschoolers

Gift-Ideas..all_thumb3

This is an updated re-post of the post I shared last year!  I have added a few things to this year’s idea list!

I get asked a lot about gift ideas, so I thought it might be helpful to throw a few out there with some mini reviews on each item. We personally own everything I recommend, and I will never recommend something we don’t love! You will notice some cross-over from my Christmas Ideas for Tots post. If I felt it was good for both, I listed it in both places.
