Let’s Draw Birds!

Let's Draw Birds - Free Printables

I love to draw but am not a natural artist. I love drawing tutorials and have used them in my homeschool with my kids for years. When I saw this fabulous set of bird drawing tutorials in a clipart collection I was thrilled to create a set of printables for you to use.

There are 8 different birds included: flamingo, swan, quail, owl, nightingale, penguin, ostrich and vulture.  Each bird has a full size page with the drawing steps on the left and a blank area to draw on the right. This way you can easily trim off the tutorial if you want to display just your child’s drawing!

There is also a set of cards in case you want to print these only, laminate them and add them to your art area!

Five Little Chicks Kindergarten Literature Unit in Action

I am sad that this is one of our last Kindergarten Literature Units,  unless I decide to do more this summer.  I had a few more I wanted to create and do with her, so we will see!

This one, Five Little Chicks, was inspired by her recent obsession with chickens.

Five Little Chicks Kindergarten Literature Unit in Action

I love setting up a central area for our theme focus and my daughter loves it too.  I gather our toys and books together and display them the night before we begin our unit. It helps to draw her in and get her excited about our learning time together. For this unit, we gathered our stuffed chickens, our farm magnets, and displayed our chicken books.

A very simple sensory tub, with popcorn kernels and little chickens.  The little gold pipe cleaner pieces are worms. She LOVED this tub, and it is still out even though our unit is done.

Unfamiliar with Nomenclature cards, also called 3-Part cards?

Nomenclature cards are a Montessori based idea. The word Nomenclature comes from the Latin “nomenclatura” which means assigning of names to things. Nomenclature cards are also called “3 part cards” for obvious reasons!

Here’s a couple of articles sharing more about the what, why, and how!

Counting is for the Birds Literature Unit in Action

We are loving our Kindergarten Literature Units,  and recently completed Counting is for the Birds!Counting is for the Birds Unit Study in Action

I love setting up a central area for our theme focus and my daughter loves it too.  I gather our toys and books together and display them the night before we begin our unit. It helps to draw her in and get her excited about our learning time together. This was a VERY easy unit to set up for since my kids are obsessed with birds, and I once was and had a lot from my teaching days!

Ladybug just had her 6th birthday and got the cute little bird feeder swing and all of those stuffed birds, the small bird toob birds, and the singing birds.  They came at the perfect time to set up for this unit!

I had so much, we used the entire length of the shelf!

Note – Please see below to be sure you are subscribed to the correct email feed to get your freebie {this freebie is NOT in our Feedburner email feed and below you will learn why}.  I have a visual walk through for you below!  All new freebies will be located in the MadMimi email feed so be sure you read below!

A Special Note About My Email Feed…

We have been having trouble with my Feedburner email feed {which thousands of you use} and many of you have kindly emailed me to share that you can’t see the images in the email. I am slowly trying to encourage everyone to unsubscribe from the Feedburner email feed and subscribe to the feed through MadMimi {which is where new freebies will be located as we move forward}.

I am going to help walk you through this, and I am sorry for the inconvenience.  Feedburner is a free email service and MadMimi is one I pay for so you get nicer emails with that one! I can’t seem to figure out the problem with the Feedburner images not showing, thus the need for change!

Here’s the Details…

If you get emails from me with individual blog posts, they either look like the one on the left or the right.  If they look like the one on the right, you are fine and don’t need to change anything. That’s the MadMimi feed.  The one on the left is the one causing images to not appear and is through Feedburner.

If your emails from me look like the one on the above left, here’s how to unsubscribe and change to the one that works!  At the bottom of your recent email from me, click “unsubscribe now.” This is a screenshot of the bottom of my Feeburner email feed to show where the unsubscribe is.

Subscribe to our MadMimi Email Feed…

Then go here and subscribe to my MadMimi Email feed, with this one you can choose to have posts delivered individually or a once a week wrap up.

If you choose the weekly wrap up the link to your freebie will be in this weekend’s post, as the weekly post comes every weekend {no later than Sunday afternoon}.
