We have enjoyed Friends and Heroes for many years now. We were given DVD 1 and a Homeschool Unit Study to review and ended up buying the remaining DVDs on our own and have used them ever since! We recently reviewed their new Homeschool Bible Study here, and are excited to share the all new Family Devotion Pack with you!

The new Family Devotional Pack is based on Friends & Heroes Series 1 video episodes which we already owned personally. We got the Family Devotion Pack DVD which contains the materials in PDF form for this review and so far it is my favorite Friends and Heroes addition!

I loaded the devotions {in PDF form, I use Dropbox and open in iBooks} onto my iPad to use digitally and printed the worksheets and Bible verse memory cards for Ladybug to use.

We haven’t used Friends and Heroes as our main Bible curriculum recently, it’s been a few years. I honestly wanted to try out this new set to see if it might be a good addition for her for the coming school year.
We sat and watched the first episode together, and she was reminded how much she loves it. I chose to print the Extra! Extra! worksheet which led us on a Bible discovery all about fish. One of the featured Bible stories in episode 1 is based on The Miraculous Catch of Fish from Luke 5. The extension activity was really neat as it took us on a journey of looking things up in the Bible.

Below you can see her almost complete sheet. We answered questions together like…

How many fish were used to feed the 5000?

On what day did God create fish?

Which Old Testament character was swallowed by a big fish?

and more! This was a really neat activity and prompted some great discussion.

I am planning to continue to use the Family Devotion Pack with Ladybug. I know it is intended for families but my boys just don’t have the time to add something like this into their school schedule and my oldest is a bit too old.

I want her to go back through the video series, they are just SO good and teach so much church history as well as specific Bible stories. I like this Family Devotion Pack because of the discussion, simple extension printables and verse cards. It is just the simple plan I need with her to take her through Friends and Heroes again. She was really little when we used it as our main Bible curriculum.

Here’s the general layout I plan to follow…

    • Watch the episode together
    • Read the devotion together and discuss
    • Do one extension activity {I choose from the options in advance and have it printed}
    • Use the Bible Verse Memory cards

The Family Devotion Pack is designed for families doing devotions together and I definitely recommend it for that purpose. As you can see it is extremely flexible and can be adapted to use however best fits your family.

    We Love Picture Smart Bible

This year for our Bible curriculum we chose to use Picture Smart Bible Old Testament K-3 with our younger two children. We want to continue on with this and move into the New Testament when we finish the Old.

Why We Like Picture Smart Bible

PSB has worked for us because it is a simple overview of each book of the Bible. The script is simple and guides me as a teacher as the kids work on their pages.

This isn’t an intense Bible study, it doesn’t take long and you create a really neat visual notebook for your child as you go along!

My kids LOVE to flip back through their pages! The pages become a scrapbook of sorts and a simple visual reminder of the key themes in each book of the Bible.

Books of the Bible Poster ~ Free Printable

    Books of the Bible Poster

A few months ago I shared an updated Books of the Bible Song Book printable. I am still {slowly} working on more printables that are Bible based.  I have a new Bible printable for you today, a color-coded Books of the Bible poster! The books are divided by type of book. I realize there are various ways to divide by type. I chose to use this code:

    • Law: red
    • History: orange
    • Poetry & Wisdom: yellow
    • Major Prophets: dark green
    • Minor Prophets: lime green
    • Gospel: light blue
    • History: aqua
    • Paul’s Letters: dark blue
    • General Letters: purple
    • Prophecy: pink
This Books of the Bible poster can be printed on plain paper, cardstock, or even photo paper to display however you desire!
Use it along with the Books of the Bible songs to help your kids memorize the books and also give them a visual for the types of books through the color code. Stay tuned for more printables to go along with this color code!
