Z is for Zebra! I can’t believe we are done with our Animal ABCs! This program was perfect for her and we had a blast going through the alphabet together and exploring animals and the letters and sounds. I am already gathering our materials to begin again with letter A through Raising Rock Stars Preschool starting in January!

She loves digging through it her letter basket!Tot School-4946

Alphabet Soup set, ABC peg set, Magnetic Letters, Ladybug Alphabet Puzzle, many zebras – even Ziggy from All About Reading, and more!Tot School-5004

We are back to doing All About Reading Pre Level 1 once a week. I am not expecting mastery from Ladybug, just using this program as a way to expose her to the Big Five Skills.

Our final upper case letter in All About Reading, letter Z!  She drew stripes on the zebra and the letter Z.Tot School-5002

Life-School_thumb_thumb_thumb_thumb_

We are using the Jesse Tree Calendar Cards, eBook and ornaments and even though the reading is over her comprehension level, she is loving it!  She always loves putting the calendar cards up!Tot School-4980

We are using Truth in the Tinsel printable ornaments this year and also hanging up the crafts we made last year.  She also loves hanging these every day!Tot School-4942

My little book worm, she is OFTEN found like this!Tot School-4995

Animal ABC ~ Lowercase Letters

Animal abc lowercase letters

I have a bonus for all of you who have purchased the Animal ABC Bundle!  I created a separate lowercase letter set, with all new animals!

Why new animals? Because Ladybug loves animals and half of the fun with this is exploring the animals and not just the letters, so I thought 26 all new animals would capture her interest!  We will be using these after we finish the uppercase set, when she begins RRSP, I will add them in. We will also be entering into the second half of All About Reading Pre, which focuses on lowercase letters.

You might giggle at some of the animal choices I made, finding a 2nd animal for each letter was a bit challenging!  I wrote in the name of the animal on the main letter page in case you are a bit clueless!  Also ~ I usually use short vowel sounds but in the case of letter e, I chose an eagle, since the other choices for e weren’t good images. A few of my more interesting animal choices ~ v-vervet monkey, q-quokka, n-nightingale, z-zebra finch, y-yorkie {dog}.

I hope you have fun with these ~ they are available as a bonus for people who have purchased the Animal ABC Bundle!  Or ~ you can purchase the set from Teacher’s Notebook here.

This set contains…

display letters

blank lowercase letters, full page

Ideas for Using ~ ABC Letter Crafts

Ideas for Using ABC Letter Crafts

There are many creative art opportunities for you to explore with the Animal ABC letter crafts.  The templates are blank and simple in nature for this reason, so you can use your own ideas based on what YOUR child enjoys.  Here are some ideas for you to get your creative juices flowing!

Even if you don’t use Animal ABCs, you can still use the letter templates provided and make fun letter crafts with them!

Marble Painting

Put the whole letter page in a shallow cardboard box and drop a large or small marble in and squirt some paint in.  Let your child choose colors as s/he names them.  This activity not only produces a beautiful piece of artwork in the end, but also gives your child the chance to work through many skills.  Balancing the marble and getting it to go where desired is a big challenge for most young kids!

Cloud Painting

{or snow painting}

Mix white glue and white shaving cream together in about equal parts to make a fluffy cloud like paint.  Add a few drops of tempera paint for color.

Tempera Paint

Simple, yes, but oh so fun for a tot.  Be sure to allow color mixing at this stage, it’s so much fun for tots to explore freely with paint.  My girl is usually a one color girl, by her own choice!

 Painting

Your choice of brushes, or painting materials, can change up this whole activity.  Here’s a few things to try…

Melissa & Doug Jumbo Paint Brushes (set of 4)    Young Artist Texture Painting Set    Alex Toys Beginner Brushes (3)    image

Water Color Paint

Also simple, but challenging for tots as they think through the way to get the paint on their brushes!  None of my tots have enjoyed water colors, but I always expose them at an early age!

Markers

My tots love markers {washable of course}.  Simply coloring the letter with markers can be a fun choice, and is one Ladybug chooses often!

Dot Paint

Dot paint is fun and most kids love it!  Allow your child to dot paint the full sheet and then you can cut the letter out after it dries!

Stickers

If you have letter stickers you can use those.  If you have stickers of the featured animal…cool!  Or just a fun variety of stickers to reinforce the letter shape while working on fine motor skills.Stickers

{blog post featuring stickers on letter L}

Finger Paint

You can see her stickers on the letter, which we did prior to the finger paint.   I let her fingerpaint on the whole page first and then cut out the letter after it dries.Finger Paint

Sponge Painting

A bit of tempera paint and a small sponge just adds another element of creativity to painting.  Again, I leave the page whole and let her paint away, then cut after it dries.

Letter Stamps

We have the Melissa & Doug ABC Stamp set and this large ink pad.

ABC Stamps

Glitter

You can have your tot paint the letter first, or just use glitter.  I outlined the letter in white glue and then gave her shakable glitter to make the letter stand out.  I hate glitter, but she loves it so I bust it out every so often!Glitter

{blog post featuring glittered letter K}

Tissue Paper Collage

Use colored tissue paper {or construction paper if you don’;t have tissue} and help your tot tear it into small pieces.  Provide a small cup with watered down glue {a few drops of water in with white glue} and a Qtip.  Show your tot how to add glue to the paper and then stick tissue paper on top.  They can also lay the tissue paper and apply the glue right over the top! Tot School Letter X Collage

After the tissue collection is dry, cut out the letter and apply the animals!Homeschool-3951

I made a simple pdf file of these ideas that you can print out and keep with your supplies, for those days when you are feeling less-than-creative! You can download the printable file here!

We had loads of fun creating our own game with our Interlox pieces.  We put them all in a bowl and rolled a die, and took turns grabbing the correct number out of the bowl.Homeschool-3960

Meanwhile, I had taken one of each color and put them in another bowl, for us to “draw” the winning color after the bowl was empty.  Since Krash and Ladybug were playing, I wanted them to focus on counting and sorting, not the specific color.  They had no idea which color would be chosen as the winner!

Gymnastics continues to be a highlight of her week, she loves it, but it wears her out!

Ladybug is quite the artist, which certainly is not a gift from me.  She spends most of her free time coloring and drawing.  One afternoon she colored a few extra “Buck Denver” pictures.  On the right are a few of her drawings from this past week.  Bottom left is a “worm-cat”, bottom right is a dinosaur.  Pac drew the star on the top page for her and she colored it and drew our family.

Watching her have a blast in her gymnastics class just melts my heart.  She absolutely loves it and just smiles the entire time!
