The Transition to Kindergarten at Home

Ladybug is currently in our last week of our home preschool plan {sniff, sniff} and is turning 5 very soon!  I am finalizing our transition to Kindergarten at home plan to prepare.

I  will adjust our official plan and routine for the fall, but from about April-August, Ladybug will still want to “do school” and we will!  I have developed a simple transitional plan for her. I will continue our Learning with Ladybug feature, as it isn’t grade specific.  I will just keep writing wrap up posts so you can see what we are doing!  Is this Kindergarten?  Yes, she is definitely at that level.  My sad little mommy self just isn’t ready to call it that yet.

The Transition to Home Kindergarten

Here’s my plan from now until the fall {since she will school some in the summer even though the boys take a break}.  She loves time with me doing school and I love it too.

Add in Literature Based Unit Studies using books she loves {I am developing some and will be using some from Homeschool Share}

Begin working with Kindergarten Packs {updating some to themes she loves}

Have theme weeks based on her interests {rather than a letter focus each week}

Try You Can Read to see if she is ready {I am honestly not sure what she will think}

Mouse Paint is a great way to work on color word and although my daughter is a bit young for this, it’s not too early to expose!  I made these to be Q tip painting sheets, but she is an out of the box thinker and asked for glitter.  Together we put tiny glue dots on the bubbles and then glittered them!

Q Tip Painting Numbers

Q Tip Painting Numbers

So many of my printables are literacy related, and I often forget about the numbers! My girl LOVES the Q-tip alphabet set, so I made a couple of number sets for fun too.  I couldn’t decide which version I liked so I made 3!

I made a set with dots to paint, and the numbers, this set goes from 0-30, here’s a sample…

Ideas for Using ~ ABC Find It Printables

Ideas for Using ABC Find It!

I have a new series of printables called ABC Find It! that I am working on right now and using with Ladybug!  We used Letter Aa last week and I took pictures of the games we played to give you some ideas of what to do with these!

ABC Find It Letter A

I printed one copy of each on regular paper and laminated the two image sheets.  I did not laminate the clues, although I probably should have!  I kept the poster whole and cut up the other two sheets.

Cut up images and hide in a sensory bin {rice, beans, etc.}.

Have your child dig out each item and find it on the poster! I added a small plastic cup for her to put the images in as she found them. {yes we got rice on the floor}

Use the poster to play a simple game of listen and find it.  Call out an item and challenge your child to point to it on the poster!

Cut apart the image cards and hide them around the room. Ladybug LOVES this active game! Even Krash gets into it!

After you think s/he has found them all, match them up to the poster {or a second set of the image cards} to make sure!

Cut up the clue sheet {words} and put in a bowl/bucket.  Have your child draw a clue out of the bucket and you read it.

We scattered our image cards on the floor, or you could use the poster to point, or an un-cut image sheet.  As I read the clue she had to find what I was talking about!  This gets somewhat challenging for younger kids, as some of the clues are more difficult. She loved this game!

There are many more things you can do with the ABC Find It printables, I hope many of you have lots of fun with them!  You will be seeing them in my upcoming Preschool posts featuring Ladybug!

I will add new letters sets here {for free} as I get them done and then put a bundle download in my Teacher’s Notebook Shop when they are all complete!  Right now letter Aa and Bb are available for download!
