More Thoughts

Math ~ She will be using Teaching Textbooks 4 this year. We had a great experience with TT 3 so this was an obvious choice. We will continue to use Spielgaben to reinforce certain math concepts in a hands-on way. I hope to bring Life of Fred back in since we both love it.

Reading ~ See our 3rd grade reading list here. She will also be using this Reading Comprehension Workbook.

Spelling ~ All About Spelling Level 3 ~ we used level 1 & 2 and it works well for her so we will be moving on to level 3!

Grammar ~ We will be using Growing with Grammar Level 3 and Grammar Galaxy. we loved the read-aloud portion of First Language Lessons 1 & 2 and Grammar Galaxy has this aspect that I love. GWG is my favorite workbook-style grammar book.

Science ~ My husband teaches our kids science and he chose Apologia Astronomy for Ladybug and Krash. They are all thrilled and I am just thrilled that he teaches science! Ladybug will also be taking a science class at her weekly homeschool enrichment through our homeschool group.

Writing ~ I chose to switch all of my kids to IEW after having a good experience with my oldest last year. Ladybug will begin with IEW Bible Heroes.

Vocabulary ~ She will use a Spectrum workbook for the first time. I liked using this with Krash so I got her the 3rd grade book

Art ~ She LOVES art! At home we will use Home Art Studio and I signed her up for an enrichment art class with our local homeschool group that she will attend once a week. She also might take an evening art class. This is definitely her thing so we want to nurture her in this area since it is totally NOT my thing.

Geography ~ She will be using a combination of resources with a focus on United States geography. I will share more details in another post!

History ~ Ladybug will join Krash for world history. We are using the same plan as last year…just continuing on!

3rd Grade Reading List

3rd Grade Book List

Last year we used visual reading lists for the first time and it was SO helpful! I chose to do this again for this upcoming homeschool year and today I am sharing my daughter’s 3rd grade reading list.

I used many sources to find books I thought she might enjoy and that I wanted her to try. I have not read all of these, but looked at reviews and am comfortable with giving these a try.  After deciding on many book choices for her, I created a page with each cover so she can browse and choose her next book easily. We do not own all of these so I have her choose and I put the book on hold at the library!

3rd Grade Book List

My daughter can read and comprehend beyond a 3rd grade level, but she still enjoys books focused towards the younger crowd. I try to balance this and spent lots of time on this list! She would read Critter Club and Magic Puppy all day long, and I still allow her to read anything she chooses alongside of books I choose. We also always have a basket of picture books she chooses from the library too! You are never too old for picture books!

Below you can see Amazon links to all of the books on this list {click over to the blog if you are reading in email}.

Downloads…

I have a few downloads you are welcome to use if you’d like. First, here is a copy of the book choice page featuring the books I chose for her. If you want to create your own visual list, it is easy!  Just grab the book cover images online somewhere {I used Amazon} and then copy them into a document and resize how you want!  I use PowerPoint to create my documents, I like their positioning tools the best.

Here is a blank reading record like hers. I just have her write the title, author and rate the book 1-10 based on her opinion.

Here’s another reading log we have used.  It is very similar to the one we are using now.
