Our tiny animals are one of the MOST played with items in our home. Ladybug is the biggest fan and has loved them since she was aware we had them!  She seriously plays with this collection more than anything else we own.  I am consistently adding to the collection in various ways; Zulily credit, Amazon sales, 50% off coupons at Michaels and gifts from others!

I find our animals playing with her in just about every situation you can think of. They are constant companions!

I also pull specific animal sets in to use for our Continent Box studies {Australia shown below}.

I also add any animals beginning with our current letter to our Alphabet Basket collection! Below you can see our monkey collection hidden in for our Letter M basket!

The best way to get a good deal on the Safari Toobs is by using a 40-50% off one item coupon at Michaels or a similar store.  Often the toobs are found on the end caps of aisles.  A normal price for a toob is between $8-11, so with a coupon they are a great price! These little creatures are high quality and have lasted through MASSIVE play at our house for many years. If you have little ones, I definitely recommend building up a collection!

On the List...Unique Riding Toys

Our three favorite riding toys are…

RipStik ~ both boys have one and love it.  It scares me to death, but that’s part of having boys, right? They have the Ripster, which is the smaller version.  K’s awesome helmet is this one.

Both of our boys have the RipStik Ripster, which is the smaller version and is recommended for ages 8 and up {max weight 175 lbs.}.  Krash got his for Christmas when he was 5 1/2 and has been riding it ever since.  He is advanced in physical and balance skills. PacMan is 11 1/2 and still uses the Ripster, but could move up to the regular size if he wanted to buy a new one.

RipRider {FlashRider 360 has the spark addition} ~ the boys put their money together awhile back and purchased this together.  It was a great investment and is ridden every single time they are outside.  If we had a bigger space to ride I’d love for them to have 2 to ride together.

We have the FlashRider 360 {red} made for ages 6 and up {max weight 160 lbs.}.  The RipRider {blue} is recommended for ages 5 and up and doesn’t have the spark addition.  The boys love the spark but it certainly isn’t necessary. Their cousin has the blue RipRider and they love his too. RipRider is currently $59 on Amazon.

My boys paid $95 for this one, I just checked Amazon and it is only $69.99 right now!

Plasma Car ~  Look how old ours is!  We got it for a review item back in 2010 and have enjoyed it ever since. All 3 kids still ride it and although it is run down looking, it still works!  Shh, don’t tell, but they are getting a brand new one for Christmas thanks to Zulily credit!

The Plasma Car is recommended for age 3 and up {max weight 220 lbs.}.  We even have fun riding it!  Here’s our original review, you can see how young our boys look!

We were given the Candy Construction Building Set for a review awhile back {here’s the review}.  This is another building set that my kids all fell in love with immediately.  Building and candy theme?  Total win for them!

What Ages?

The recommended age range is 4-10.  I would recommend much younger as I think this is a great set to grow with.  My oldest is 11 and he still builds things with this set. The set has 92 pieces and the pieces are well made and sturdy.

Thoughts to Consider…

Sometimes when the kids build the car it doesn’t stay together as well as they would like.  This seems to be mostly because of the red “licorice” pieces.  The other creations stay together fine as long as they put them in correctly.  Ladybug has been building independently with this since day one {she was 3 1/2 when we got it} Now at 4 1/2 she can follow the manual and build things herself.  It is a very open-ended, creative building toy!

Currently the Candy Construction Building Set is $25 on Amazon here.

On The List… Straws & Connectors

From now until Christmas, I will be featuring our all time favorite toys!  I always love getting recommendations so I can get the Christmas gift idea lists to the grandparents in plenty of time!  That’s why I am starting early this year with some individual toy features.  I will update our gift recommendation posts {tot, preschool, boys, moms, Jesus} for 2013 and publish those in early November, but wanted to get started with these features of our favorites now.  I will feature 10 different gift ideas between now and Dec 21, every Saturday.

Up first, if we didn’t already own them Straws and Connectors would definitely be on the list!On the List ~ Straws & Connectors

We bought our first set of Straws and Connectors back in April, and bought our second set in May.  This is probably the most loved toy we have right now, by all three kids.  They all build some amazing creations, both individually and together as you can see…

In My Opinion…

  • Ideal Age Range 4-11 {the box says 5+}
  • Widened Age Range 3-13 The tiny connectors are small and I definitely would not recommend this toy for any child that still puts anything in their mouth. The connectors can be frustrating sometimes for my daughter but she really enjoys this set and has since she turned 4.  An easily frustrated 3 year old might be too young. Pac is 11 1/2 and still loves building with these.

Which Set?

  • We bought the smaller set first {a gift for P on his 11th birthday}, and within a month {for K’s birthday} we got the big set.  They use ALL of them.  If you only have one child and aren’t sure this will be a hit, just go for the smaller set and add on later.  If you have more than one child using the set, just get the bigger one!
  • We store all of ours in a clear plastic container from Costco, you can see it in a photo above sitting near Ladybug.

We got ours on Amazon, I haven’t seen them anywhere else {I am sure they are, I just have yet to see them in a store}
