Tot School

~Ladybug is currently 19 months old~

I must admit, I was a total slacker this week and didn’t even change out her toys or trays.  I also was a MAJOR slacker with pictures since my Canon 40D is off being repaired and I struggle even picking my point and shoot up to take pictures {I know, I should be thankful I even have that}.  So, here’s what I did capture of our totally non-eventful week.

Learning Toys

Her 3 “SAME AS LAST WEEK” learning toys {Pet Sounds Puzzle, Shape Sorter, Honey Bee Tree Game}, she loved her toys AGAIN this week.

Tot-Trays61Her Tot Trays stayed the same too and although she played with many of them, this was the only picture I took of her action!  She was transferring pm poms into a paint tray.IMG_6301

Life School

She still loves to read, and I often find her like this…IMG_6371

When I need to work and she is clingy, she like to sit up on my desk with me and scribble Winking smileIMG_6345

She loves her new Baby Signing Time DVDimageWe got #3 and have #2 on the way.  I don’t care for #3 as much as #1, but she seems to love it!  She goes up to the tv and signs “baby” to ask us to put it in!!!

Raising Rock Stars ~ Letter Mm

Sorry for my delay in getting this unit posted!  We are going a bit slower with our RRSP lessons currently.  Life has been busy and I don’t want to rush through them, so some are taking more than a week right now!  We also added in a Batman week, and are full force in a Thanksgiving week right now!  If you are doing RRSP and getting close to where I am, you might want to slow down a bit ;-).  My goal is to complete {the creation of} the remaining lessons and post to the Members Only section as soon as I can but we have some things going on behind the scenes that are slowing me down a bit.  May I suggest taking a review week or 2 {I just uploaded the 2nd review unit to the MO site}, depending on what lesson you are on.  Or choosing a Themed Tot Pack or Preschool Pack to use for a week off of RRSP.  I am sorry for my delay, life is a bit overwhelming right now and I am not able to find the hours in my schedule that it takes to create the units. Thank you for understanding!

Rock stars This is the main section of our preschool posts-focusing on what we do for our Raising Rock Stars Preschool Curriculum. I am not sharing photos of each part every week, just what I happen to catch! We do the entire unit even if I don’t show it here in the photos!

Our letter this week ~ Mm, our verse: My little children let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

You can download the entire letter Mm unit here.

RRSP Mm lesson plan is also on the same webpage! Mm Lesson Plan  Included is our exact plan {although I stray from my plan often}, with links to everything we used. Page 2 is blank in case you don’t do exactly what we do!

in the box

{A few things that were in his preschool workboxes for the week, not all activities are pictured}

He drew an eggplant from his Kumon Drawing Book and dictated his story for me to write! I love his stories!  IMG_1323

We got out many components from my Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed Tot Pack.  He had fun revisiting many of them {actually he had no memory of working with them over a year ago!}.  Here he was pointing to different body parts, using the card set “Monkey Parts.”

Here he is putting the ABCs in order using the Monkey ABC cards…IMG_2490

We also enjoyed some M is for Monkey activities from Confessions of a Homeschooler…

He LOVES the PlayDoh mats and does them on his own now.  He is always so proud when he is done! IMG_1382

He worked with our Grasshopper Preschool Prep Kit ~ Here is is tracing the letter M…IMG_1387

star boxes This is where I share open-ended toys that were in our Star Boxes for the week.

He loves our Builders & Benders {an old Discovery Toys toy}IMG_1172IMG_1205

Our new {consignment sale new} ABC fishing game was quite popular too.  {this game is made by “Shure” and I could not find it online.}IMG_1218

game timeOur game this week was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This game was not one of my favorites, but I do believe it ranks up in the top 5 for Krash, he LOVED it!  We altered the rules a bit and played it every day.IMG_1286IMG_1303

See more of our favorite preschool games here.

Moms favWe recently had a glorious day with friends in the country ~ a real treat for my inner city kids!  Roasting marshmallows was a favorite.  I love how much Krash loved them,IMG_2189 and how hilarious he thought it was that Daddy hates sticky fingers ;-) IMG_2191

How to Scale Down PDF Files…

I got a few questions {after my calendar post yesterday} asking how I got the PDF files to print 16 per page.  Here’s a simple lesson in how to do that…

  1. open the pdf file
  2. click the print icon within Adobe Reader {top left}
  3. Find where it says “Page Scaling” and set it to “Multiple Pages per Sheet”
  4. Find where it says “Pages per sheet” and set it to 16
  5. Right before you print it should look like this…

I scaled down both of the printables I used from other people, so they would match the size of the calendar printables I created for our new calendar board.  You can see links to both the ABC Movement Cards and the Character Trait cards on my Calendar Webpage!

Calendar Time…Part 2

Calendar Time Ideas and Printables

Here I will share a bit more about our calendar set-up for 2010/2011.  You can see even more, and download the printables here on my website. We use some things from our first year, and I have changed several things up.  I now have 2 calendar webpages, you can see last year’s here ~ Calendar…Part 1, and the new printables are hosted on this page ~ Calendar…Part 2.

This is our current set-up {links to everything on the webpage}…IMG_9460

Top Left…Our Seeds Family Worship verse of the week {sometimes is only changed out every other week depending on our Raising Rock Stars family time}IMG_1150

Top Right…Books of the Bible.  I am using my very own printables from Pac Man’s Bible Lapbook to review the books of the Bible daily with the boys.  On the right is the little song book {which I laminated} and on the right are the bigger book cards.  I am putting 3 up at a time and challenging the boys {K mainly as Pac already knows it} to be able to say/sing up to that point.  I am amazed at how well he is doing! You can see videos of us singing the songs on the webpage!IMG_0104

Bottom left…I shrunk down our daily items and made new printables, as well as using a couple that I found online {How to Scale PDF Files Down}.IMG_0095

Bottom Middle…I added “What’s the Season” under “What’s the Weather”  and used the same “Make the Date” from our old calendar board.  I did change to using real coins with velcro on them, rather than printables.IMG_0101

Bottom Right…I added in this wonderful chart from my good pal Jolanthe.IMG_0745I had trouble at first with all of the little numbers and not being able to find them quickly.  I then printed/laminated a second copy and velcro-ed everything together!  I found a folder pouch thing at Target and voila-problem solved!IMG_3376

Up at the top I have little blue pails from Ikea which slide perfectly onto our white photo ledge/bookshelf.  I can take them down easily for the kids to choose a “_____ of the day”IMG_0114

The only thing that is different but not pictured specifically is our little pouch {which I snagged form an old phonics set I had}.  I shrunk down all of our songs to approx. 3 1/2×5” and printed them that way.  I keep them all individually in this little plastic envelope attached to the board.  The smaller versions of the songs are included in the PDF file for the “_______ of the Day” printables.

I LOVE our new set-up, it has solved many of my calendar frustrations from last year ;-).

We do things in a different order each day, mostly depending on my mood!  Sometimes Pac Man will lead the entire time too, just to change things up…he loves this!  Krash has just started leading also.  Leading is a GREAT way for a child to learn, I just don’t always remember that!

You can download everything and see more information {including links to all supplies mentioned here} here on our Calendar..Part 2 webpage!

Raising Rock Stars ~ Jonah

Jonah

We continue to read the Bible daily to the kids each morning and have recently been reading the book of Jonah. We weren’t completely done with the story from the NIV Bible so Daddy read that first, and then read a children’s book about Jonah.IMG_3394

While Daddy was reading from the NIV, here’s a peek at the youngest 2 {who have a really hard time paying attention to the actual Bible-for obvious reasons}…

IMG_3393 IMG_3395

~Side note – right after that photo was taken my Canon 40D locked up and is now off in the mail being sent to a repair shop. I was SO bummed and praying just to get through the Bible time so I could figure out how to handle my camera being broken. How Godly is that? I am human and I honestly had such a hard time focusing on not wanting to run to my computer to look up the error code and figure my camera out. But, I grabbed the point and shoot and did my best to focus on what really mattered ;-). Then I learned that my camera had to be sent in, so you’ll be seeing much more of my spectacular point and shoot photography skills here for awhile!

After reading, we went to the table where I had some things for us to do. Ladybug and Krash colored a page I made for them and Pac Man did a crossword puzzle. I can’t say it was the best night, but we spent it together and that counts for a lot!

Of course we had to watch Jonah
