Piano Lessons!

We finally started piano lessons! I have been meaning to get serious about the lessons for about a year now and I finally researched and chose our books and we began the day they arrived in the mail! P has a natural desire (a HUGE one) to play the piano, so I knew I needed to put all those years of lessons I had as a child to good use and teach him a little bit. My knowledge will only go so far, but at least I can get him started!

I decided on Bastien Piano Sheet Music. I am happy with it and he seems to really like it too. We are doing theory lessons also, which he doesn’t like as much but I told him if we were going to do this, we would do it right!

In the Works ~ Backyard Birds Lapbook

We began our Backyard Birds lap/notebook and we’re loving it! I let Pac-Man choose the birds we will study, with only 1 stipulation-he has to have seen one in either our backyard or the backyard of his grandparent’s down in NC (he bird watches a ton down there).

For his first bird, he chose the White Throated Sparrow, which I think is a really cute bird! In the photo below you can see the cover of this section, which has the name and 2 photos I took of this bird in our backyard. He is coloring the bird from this online coloring book of birds. We got the WONDERFUL mini books from Homeschool Share’s great Backyard Birds Lap ~n~ Note. There are tons of resources to use. Be sure to check out Ami’s (the creator of these wonderful minis) post about her son’s backyard birds Lap/Notebook, it’s awesome! We are putting each of his folders like this one together into a 3 ring binder (you can see the wholes punched in this folder). I am learning more than I ever even wanted to know about birds!!!

Cursive?

OK, so I knew it was coming but it has caught me off guard a bit. I have known from the beginning that Calvert introduces cursive (Calvert Script they call it) in 1st grade, but now that we’re here it is a bit emotional! My emotions didn’t really get to me until this was the assignment… He wrote his first word in cursive and did a GREAT job!! He is such a big boy :) I am so proud of him as handwriting has not been something that came easy for him. He has really worked hard at it. Seeing him write in cursive just makes me feel old. I guess it’s because back in the day I didn’t learn it until 3rd grade I think?

Handy Manny ~ Tot Book

I got Handy Manny done! K really likes Handy Manny so I went ahead and got this one done. The votes are now reset on the Tot Books main page, go and vote to help me decide which to make next!
