Tot School

Krash seemed to really *grow up* this week. I feel like my baby boy has sort of disappeared into this little talking, questioning, explaining, understanding-grown up little tot. He’s still my baby, still my tot, but something seems to have changed. We have entered into the world that just makes more sense-you know? He just gets it now, I can reason with him, he listens (way better than big bro ever did at this age), and his play has changed a lot.

As I looked back through the photos of this week, my feeling was confirmed as I have shots of a few new milestones for him. Oh my baby boy…don’t grow up to fast!!!!

We began our week with a wonderful staff retreat at Camp Men-O-Lan. Our entire ministry staff goes all together for 2 1/2 days and we spend tons of time just hanging out together. The boys had a blast. K perfected his scootering skills…And played TONS with the few little trucks he brought along… (you can see the little truck rolling down the rock)We arrived home on Wed evening and managed to pack lots more into our week, which began with a big boy moment of finally learning how to work this helicopter all by himself. He can load it, balance it, and pull the string to get it to fly–we were all impressed!!!He did some work in the house this day…ha ha! Wouldn’t you hire him?One of his favorite learning games, lining up our rechargeable batteries and counting them….Another milestone was that he finally was able to build his own Marble Track, I was amazed. He kept trying and saying, “no, other way, yea, like that…” talking himself through his mistakes. I stepped in to help a few times but he did it mostly on his own…We played with our Leap Frog Alphabet Go Fish, he liked these since he knows the characters from the DVDs.He played with a paint color thingy. We searched for colors together and made shapes with the fan part of it…We painted…He worked on W for his ABC Notebook
I got out our Hopscotch mat (he has never played with this before) and we had a blast doing all sorts of things with it, he loved it! Here he is standing on the number Pac-Man asked him to find…

The boys played dress up, my favorite part was watching Pac get K dressed up and seeing their patience with each other.
K hit a big behavioral milestone this week involving these toys pictured. He was getting VERY angry that the Heroes wouldn’t ride the motorcycle just right. He spent most of the morning crying about it, it was ridiculous. So bad that he and the Heroes had to go in time out. After his nap we got the Heroes down and I explained to him that he could not cry if it didn’t work. I told him to ask for help or just keep trying. I am shocked to say that he did not cry the entire afternoon, even when he got mad. I was so proud!!!

He loves our Drum Set… (I know our neighbor does too)Finally, the moment that made this whole *growing up baby boy* thing real for me. He role-played for the first time on his own. I walked in and heard him speaking softly to Buzz and realized he was pretending Buzz was his baby. He was “changing his hiney,” “putting him night night,” “covering him up,” and various other things. I also heard him saying a few things to Buzz that me and Daddy say to K and P, it was SO sweet.

Tot School ~ Grandparent Style

Both of my boys spent the week down in NC with both sets of grandparents. I stayed home and cleaned my house, my husband went on a mission trip to the Bronx with the teens from our church.

My mom and mother-in-law were kind enough to capture some moments for me, as you can see, Tot School happens even when I am not around!!!

My parents have a pool and K became quite the little fish!

He learned colors and cause and effect as they played water balloons…Someone at my mom’s work gave her a Hot Wheels box filled with TONS of almost new cars for the boys. My mom said K played with them all week long!!!
My parents took the boys to Lazy 5 Ranch, K fed all sorts of animals and they said he loved every minute!
Lots of reading, notice his car he’s driving on the book while Baba reads to him!
They also had several fun days that I don’t have photos for yet, I will try to add those when I get them! I am glad they got this fun week but I am ready to have them at home with me this week!

Homeschool Memoirs

I saw someone else’s Homeschool Memoir post and loved the idea so I decided to join in! I will get straight to the point of this week’s assignment (if you want to read more about Homeschool Memoirs, click here).

My name is Carisa, I am 33, married for 9 years. Mom of two boys-”Pac-Man” age 6 and “Krash” age 2. We are a full time missionary family serving in inner-city. That is the reason we began homeschooling! The schools around here are as bad as you can imagine and we gradually felt God steering us in this direction a few years back, although we resisted for awhile! We finally jumped in and are now entering our 3rd year. I can’t imagine ever not homeschooling now. What began as something I felt we had to do has turned into one of God’s best blessings in our lives!
I am a former public school K teacher, former children’s photographer, former children’s ministries director at our church. I am now starring in the best possible life role-wife, mom, and homeschool teacher!

I am an organization freak, I hate to cook, I am an introvert although most people think I am an extrovert. I could spend days alone (actually I have this week!). I used to be a tv addict, now I hardly watch it. I used to love Christian non-fiction and now adore Christian fiction! I take way too many photos and I love messing around on the computer.

Tot School is one of my favorite things in life! I don’t know what I will do when I don’t have a tot around…that will be a sad day!!! I love teaching in general but teaching younger kids is the highlight of my life!

If you’d like to read more about me you can visit my “About Us” page. I will close with one of my favorite recent family photos.

Thanks for visiting!!!

Noah’s Ark Tot Book

I finished the Noah’s Ark Tot Book! It got the highest number of votes on the site so I worked on it first! My boys(husband too) are gone this week-staying with the grandparents in NC, which is why I haven’t been hanging out in Blog-land much. I am working this entire week deep cleaning and organizing my house. I can’t wait to get back to normal life, I miss my guys!

Hope you all enjoy the Noah’s Ark Tot Book, as always, please email me your blog post if you make it and blog about it!

Tot School

We had a short Tot School week leaving to go to NC on Thursday morning and not returning until Sun (today). But I got a majority of this post done in advance so I could get it published while we are away! We managed to pack a lot into our short week and had a blast!

The boys love the bath and love our letters…Rub A Dub Abc & 123
This Melissa and Doug Shapes – Chunky Puzzleseems to come out almost every week now!We haven’t had these out much lately, they are a part of this PRIMER PACK AGES 3-6, K wasn’t all that interested in them, but we’ll try again soon!
He was VERY interested in his new plastic scissors that I got for him from Target last week.We played color mats for a while and he did really well matching up the cards this time. He insisted he needed the bike helmet to do it properly…
He enjoyed working with his Ratatouille Tot Book some this week…
He also asked me for his Cars Tot Book
Here he is pretending the bottle tops are horns and we’re singing Wheels on the Bus (horn goes beep, beep, beep…)
Instead of painting this week, he used them to take in and out of the tray for awhile… (Do-A-Dot Rainbow Art Set (Set of 6))

We played a really fun game to work on counting. We started saying “1, GO” then “1, 2, GO” up to “1, 2, 3, …10, GO.” K LOVED this. It was very loud, active, and crazy but it helped not only with counting but also listening skills as he had to freeze when I yelled “stop!”
We also played a game with our foam letters, laying them out on the ottoman like this…We would tell K which one to find and he’d find it and then he would run over and put it up on the shelf and yell “I did it!!!” so proudly!!! P set up the ribbons and we practiced going under, working on our positional words…Then the boys had a blast crossing the finish line…We had a great time with chalk… He drove the bucket of chalk around on his scooter…He matched colors with his Discovery Bugs…
He only wanted to knock the Nesting and Stacking Blocks over this day…
The boys always have fun with our marble track. (Transparent Marble Run 43-pc. Set)
K LOVES to cook, here he is helping make peanut butter balls…
He can’t help but to get a little bite in while we roll them!
