Tot School ~ Beach Style

We spent the week at the beach, and head home tomorrow. Funny how Tot-School occurs everywhere, even at the beach…tots are always learning! Here’s a few highlights of learning opportunities K had this week away.

A little bit of physical education as he RAN around the house being chased by his cousin in the wagon!
He confronted his fears daily until he was OK to run and play on the beach!
He enjoyed rest time…
Fun water play in the baby-pool…
A little Play Doh on the front porch…

Some fun swinging…A bit of coloring with his cousin, also had MANY lessons in sharing this week as they are only 4 months apart! He got to build his very own dump truck at RidemakerzAnd he rode his first rides and LOVED every minute!!! We had fun for a few days with our home-made sea turtle…complete with baby pool in the middle!!

On Vacation…

We are in Ocean Isle Beach, NC right now–have been for about 6 days now. We head back home on Monday. It has been a great trip and I have even stolen some moments to work on new Tot Books! I designed a few in a notebook and am ready to make them a reality soon. I did finish Chicka Chicka Boom Boom entirely(just need to upload the files) and am so excited to print it when I get home and get K going on that great book. A reader recommended that one (and many others below) and I love that idea so much!!!

Here’s what should be up within a couple of weeks(I hope) after I get home and find time to put them on the computer and upload!

  • Noah’s Ark
  • Thomas the Train
  • Handy Manny
  • Bouncing Balls

Here’s some pics from our beach time!!

P loves the ocean, K–not so much…

Tot School

We are actually at the beach right now, but I got this done before we left! We had a wonderful week of Tot School, one of our best in awhile, I just really enjoyed my moments with K this week. He is growing up so fast, this was one of those weeks where I just felt like I stared at him in awe of my love for him all week! He did drive me nuts of course, but it just didn’t matter this week, my immense love for this kid overruled every bad moment.

I remember when he could not do this puzzle by himself, not so long ago…This one too. He was cute this time, lining all of the letters up!
We worked on colors with this and he quickly turned it into a rolling ramp for his car…
And I guess he is a genius since he can read upside down :)
P was beyond impressed with K’s t-ball abilities. I had taught K to hit the ball one day when P wasn’t there, and K showed him this day!
We played a little peek a boo with the Parachute P got this cool Rocket Balloon thing for his birthday a few months back and this day he taught K how to use it, I love watching them work together. K always asks us to write K’s for him…
We worked with his Ratatouille Tot Book this week. He likes it, but Cars still beats out all the rest!!!
I got this and a couple of other neat books at the dollar section at Target this week, they are some of their better ones!

I just love this sight. My boys at home, at the table, learning side by side.
K enjoyed playing with P’s magnetic shape board (it came with his Calvert K set).
He laced for the first time this week!
He’s a big boy now, the crib was converted this week!
K loves Cranium Balloon Lagoon. It’s actually P’s game, but K plays with it tons. Here he is fishing for letters…
He pounded bubble wrap…
and pinched it…
He water colored for about a minute…he just doesn’t enjoy watercolors, but I keep offering it in case he changes his mind!
Finger paint was a big hit!! I got the special Finger Paint Paper and both boys loved it’s slippery feel!
I did have to encourage K to get messy though, he kept saying “wipe it” just like his bro used to!!
He played with this book, Rescue Trucks, but was more interested in taking the cars in and out of the holder on the front!
He did run them on the track too though!
WE LOVE these blocks, it was a wonderful $10 spent back at Christmas, he likes them more and more each time they come out. I originally got one of these great nets from Ikea to hold our balls at the back door. I returned to get 2 more to use just for play! We did many things with them and had a blast creating new uses and silly games!
K loved to be covered up with it!
Then we put all of his blocks inside of one, And shook them all around and then he dumped them! We had a fun night at Chick Fil A this week with my friend Shannon and her son Daniel. K loved the nature sound board, although he got a little freaked out by some of the sounds!

Our School Room ~ Ready for the New Year!

First, I must tell you, I used to be a public school Kindergarten teacher. This is important for you to know for 2 reasons…#1 it explains my LOVE of bright colors, it just isn’t school for me without a classroom like this-it makes me happy. #2 I have tons of stuff (school type stuff) that I saved from when I used to teach. I was one of those teachers who bought things with personal money for my classroom when I taught, and I got to keep all of that when I quit, I just boxed the MANY goodies up and now finally have a use for them!!

I have purchased many things for this room, but have spent a very moderate amount of money. I thank Ikea and Target for that!!! I sure wish they were paying me because I am about to put a big plug in for them :). I will try to link up specific things I love in case you are interested and have an Ikea near you!

Here we go…Command central, our table. We do everything here! The table itself is from Ikea, as are the stools, the table trays (which I got a new one for Pac Man for this year), and even the trash can!! I am fortunate that Krash does leave the table trays alone. He is a wild child but is obedient for the most part so he usually stays out of them. Here we have our drawers, P’s storage board, files with P’s school books, our cd player, cd basket, and a storage box. If you want to know what is in the drawers I tell about them on the video linked above. Here’s a close up of P’s board…Krash can’t reach this!We finally hung the dry erase board up on the wall, a task on the to-do list all last year!!!This is our back door, which has been changed a bit, I added some hooks to the wall too. These are the baskets hanging on the wall, they are great! Hanging on the back of the door holding our balls is this.Look, the dark hole is clean!!!!!
REALLY clean!!! I am praying I can keep it this way!!! Sitting on top of the radiator, are these. These are the shelves lining the other wall…These boxes are on these shelves. I couldn’t live without these boxes, they are 1.49 now, I got them when they were only 99 cents! You can’t see them in my photos, but we use these to store books. I have a big bookshelf in the living room, where all of the books are sorted by theme. I pull the box we are using into the school room when we need it.

Here is the far left shelf up close…This is the Tot School shelf, if you want to know what’s on it, check out my Tot School Tools store!Moving along…I LOVE my new dollar trays from Target. If you like them, go to Target, they probably still have them, I just got them last week! Final shelf…
This is the last wall, more drawers (from Target, I think on sale this week for $10), and my storage board. And, holding artwork on our wall now, these neat things. My board close up…It feels so good to have it all ready, I feel SO much better than I did last year! I am praying I have organized it in a way that I can keep it clean. I tried to get rid of lots of junk we don’t use to simplify what is in there. We’ll see!

Last Week (July 2008)

New Bible Curriculum

We began our new Bible curriculum today, Old Testament Overview, from Grapevine Studies. I researched for awhile last year and finally decided on this one, thinking it would be a good fit for both Pac-Man’s learning style and my teaching style. I had really prayed that he would like it because I could tell already that I would! We began working on the timeline today and I am happy to say he loved it!!! I will give an update after we are a bit further into the lessons, but after day 1, I can say it was a success and I recommend it!
