Tot School

We had a great tot school week this week! I was a bit more on target this week with the whole (good) Mommy thing :). I think I may be finally adjusting to the summer (lack of) schedule. I was dying to go back to the school schedule, but I am relaxing a bit now and just enjoying the time off. I tend to do better with a routine that stays similar, summer throws me all off!

We brought out the Nemo Tot-Book early in the week and K had a good time looking through it although he didn’t love it quite as much as his Cars one!!This, on the other hand, he LOVED!!!!And this…he LOVED–getting his brother (who was trying to rest in the warm sun)!PAYBACK!!!He saw this puzzle on a shelf and asked me to get it down. I love it that he can now really communicate what he wants to work with. Although that also means he can clearly communicate when he does NOT want to work with something! That’s not as nice.We are up to Ee in our ABC notebook (in case you didn’t know or are just joining us, we are going through each letter of his name)Hands-On Learning: Match, Trace and Write the Alphabet Mats

He asked for his Cars Tot-Book several times this week, and really enjoyed coloring over and over again on the pages!
We also went and colored the Nemo cards, he really likes coloring the things in the Tot Books. Then he glanced up and saw a “Nemo” book with our ocean themed stuff for P’s summer study. He asked me to get it down and he had a good few minutes looking through it!
I got out our Candy Land DVD Game for some color work. We had a great time playing various games that involved running around and being crazy while we learned. I had the boys go and get me certain colors, stomp on certain colors, stack them up–all sorts of different things to engage K in some playful color work. He still only consistently knows yellow. He is getting better, but colors aren’t his thing :). He can recognize ALL uppercase letters-but colors…yeah–not his thing. Here he is practicing his balancing skills, on our Cooshie Booster
–nice socks buddy. Yeah he pulled them up like that ;)
He is really into this Pets Jigsaw Book right now. He can do the simple puzzles almost alone now and will often bring me the book and ask me to do it with him!The Stacker Pegs/bears toys we have are always a big hit with both boys. This week it was cool because K stacked (sorted) by color on his own for the first time!!
We spent some time drawing on our Aquadoodle K made his first Mr. Potato Head creations this week! He has never really been too interested in them and then he shocked me and spent a very long time creating. I was so excited to capture his unique creatures!!!

If you have a tot (approximately ages 1-3) at home, join in the fun and share what you’re doing with your tot! Here’s how to get started if you’re new…

Tot-Books (Veggie Tales & Ocean Animals)

I have not given these to K yet so I don’t have photos up yet, but the templates are ready for download in case anyone is interested in these themes! K is still working with Nemo, but I imagine he will lose interest soon and a new one will join us! He also still asks for the Cars one a lot, I think he has re-colored the Cars Colors minit book at least 4 different times, it has been wonderful…I love all of the scribbles!I have also added a link up to an awesome Cinderella Tot-Book made by my online friend Sako! She made this for her little girl, it is precious! I am adding pages up as I make them, instead of as I introduce them to K. If you check into the site, you might find new ones, even if I haven’t blogged about them yet!

One Line…

I am reading Instructing a Child’s Heart and loving it. I love hearing about other books like-minded parents are reading so I thought I would share with you, in case any of you are wondering what I read at night! I am usually reading up to 4 books at a time, and I also wonder if others are like that!

Usually one line can catch my attention and draw me into a book. I know some people like to read very long book reviews/recommendations–not me. I am a straight to the point kind of gal and I thought I would share in that fashion in case any of you are like that! Here is the line that drew me into this book…

“Often, sincere Christians feed and house the enemy (the secular culture) and feel they can somehow contain its influence on their family.”

What are you reading? Care to share one line? :)

Nemo ~ Tot-Book

The new Nemo Tot Book is up on the Tot-Book site! K was thrilled with this one too, as Nemo is another of his favorites! I am currently working on Veggie Tales. I am really enjoying these and I am crazy-I also enjoy making them. Leave me a comment if you have a special request (either from the list I am definitely going to do or something not on the list-the list is at the bottom of the Tot-Books main page).

If you print one of the Tot-Books and get a photo of your tot with it, I would love to add a link to your site on the Tot-Book page!

Tot School

Our week started off sorta slow this week, I was a bit off my rocker in the Mommy department. I wasn’t feeling as motivated to be a great mom until about Wednesday! Sometimes I wonder if any of you feel that way and if you realize I am that way. I think sometimes blogs can make us “appear” better than we are, or as if we have it ALL together. Just in case there was ever any question, I do NOT have it ALL together, not even a large part of it! Ha ha, I just don’t write much about that part and I certainly don’t have any photos to share of me losing it with my precious angels.

Anyhow, I finally got going with the be a good mom part and began to offer wonderful opportunities to my children ;) Here’s K writing with our popular Cars book (a great deal from TJ Maxx or somewhere like that). He told me he drew a circle, I was pretty excited because it sort of looks like a circle!
Then I was busy doing dishes or something and I hear a racket in the schoolroom. I went in and found this…
He had opened one of our cabinets and gotten out the tot-school supplies he needed. He opened every little box stored in there and was entertaining himself for the longest time. Then we played bowling together…
I loved it when he stuck all of the cubes on his fingers and began to count (you know-1, 4, 8, 10…)We went to work on our ABC notebook and I gave him his next page and he demanded that he be given the page with “Liam” on it. We did this page last week, but he wanted to color Liam some more, so we did…Then we worked on Ll one last time with our Hands-On Learning: Match, Trace and Write the Alphabet MatsI love this photo, he was going CRAZY scribbling with the pen.And it wouldn’t be a tot-school week for us without this favorite toy coming down…I got real in “good mom” gear on this day, bringing them outside for some outdoor tot school. First with blocks…And then a bit of picnic reading…While outside K found his first rock–you know the special rock, the one you just have to put in your pocket and show to everyone. Of course his new Cars Tot-Book was a big part of our week too. If you haven’t seen my post about the Tot-Books, you can read that here.

Our final tot-school activity was playing with straws/stirring sticks/popsicle sticks and water bottles.
Again, he goes for the toes…

And I know this isn’t really tot-school but I had to share his 2 yr portraits that I finally took! For any of you that don’t know, I was a children’s photographer for 3 years before moving to Philly, but taking photos of this little guy is my worst nightmare! I was SOOO excited to get these…
